I wonder why UA is retiring a 30 year old 777 when they have at least 20 767s that are 2-4 years older.

I wonder if there were any plans on preserving N777UA? Flying on this plane was on my bucket list. Oh well...

One more time... N777UA is not going to VCV for retirement.

Maybe something changes between now and whenever, and United never brings it back into service. Certainly within the realm of possible outcomes. But that is not the plan at the moment.

I would be surprised and disappointed if UA retired a relatively iconic bird without a hint of fanfare.

Age is less relevant that number of cycles of the frame and engine, and when heavy (D) checks are required. Plus the missions of the aircraft are different.

I get it that the all important D check is what usually drives these decisions, but given that the 767s that are older are used in virtually the same way that the 777 are, it just seemed odd. But since its not a permanent retirement, never mind.

Such an important bird, someone even created a whole thread on A.net. LOL
https://www.airliners.net/forum/view...?f=3&t=1506233

Anyway, I have a model of this aircraft in the old Battleship Gray scheme (1/500, made by Herpa), and it has the titles "Working Together" at the front. I believe it was the only aircraft in the fleet to have those titles and it was painted over in all future repaints?

That seems like an odd First Flight.

One would think this would be the return segment of a round trip, so one has to wonder if the flight that flies to SJU will just deadhead somewhere

Suppose there could be a charter from SJU ...... or to SJU for that matter.

Inquiring minds want to know (OK, this mind wants to know)

The 755am flight cancelled, so UA must had pushed the Induction unit out of TPA to SJU to pick up passengers. I've seen that before.
