They have renamed the Arabic mezze and Arabic breakfast to Qatari mezze and Qatari breakfast in their menus 😃

lol. But genuine question for those that know the state of Qatar better than meis there anything about the mezze that QR serves (which ofc is Levantine of origin), or the ful (which is Egyptian) that makes it distinctly Qatari? The mezze ex-doh, while delish and innovative, doesnt strike me as distinctly Qatari

Perhaps they should take note from their friendly neighbour the recent OW joiner how to properly do a local tasting/set menu onboard, see sample menu below which looks very promising esp the Omani set menu. Id take that anytime over a hockey puck tenderloin or rubbery lobster thermidor, always thought QR could do something similar like a unique Qatari set menu. I think Saudia did something very similar too.

Of course QR has always been a bit eccentric with some of their descriptions, with their hand tossed salads and "homemade" yogurts. It would seem strange to call it a Qatari mezze and then offer a houmus with pesto.
(and it's okay Dr, I am not criticising QR)

I seem to have acquired a reputation for always defending QR. It's not true. The problem is that I find very little to criticize, particularly when compared to my other choices commuting between BOS and BKK. When I feel that criticism is deserved, I give it, and have, indeed, criticized QR. But I neither expect nor demand perfection. I'm not perfect, and I don't expect it from any airline.
I've heard great things about WY, and the YouTube accounts look very nice. I'm looking forward to trying it.

WY has been in restructuring for a while slashing costs. They laid off another 1,000 staff in April.
I would not expect the kind of service that we got before 2023.

To be fair though there has been some major cost cutting with QR J catering lately as you can see from my recent posts and even the crews are telling me the same esp with regards to fewer meals being loaded onboard. Champagne and Wine quality has gone down as well as you know compared to 3-4 years ago. As someone who consistently travel with QR J every month or so the past few years I can definitely feel some areas where theyve cut things. I could probably write a whole essay on it!

June's DOH-HAM morning flight:

Asked if it was possible to get both starters and after checking availability FA was able to provide both

Acai bowl, not bad but in combination with the greek yoghurt it was a quite "yoghurt-ish" breakfast

Made the mistake of not ordering anything right after take off when crew came around to ask leaving only the curry left.
Even getting the cheese plate caused a little frown at first, seems their catering numbers / predictions were a bit off for this flight...

It seems QR recently re-designed the display of the online inflight menu. What I would like to understand is, if under the ALL DAY DINING > MAIN COURSE section there are more options onboard. It shows only 3-6 items (depends on the sector) and all of them are marked with "advance order only". It seems the menu is incomplete with the entire options which are offered.

I noticed that for our Oslo > Doha flights a week ago, once the menu became visible on the app, every single main course displayed had the "Advance order only" tag on them, so that gave the impression that the regular inflight menu would be something different from the dishes showing on the app. I was annoyed by this, because I only got around to looking at the app just under 24 before our first sector so I was too late to pre-order anything, and there were at least two dishes (Qatari chicken jareesh and Chilean sea bass with lobster bisque) that I really liked the sound of.
Fast forward to the flight, and lo and behold both those dishes are on the inflight menu, along with the vegetarian ravioli option I remembered from the app and didn't really like the sound of. It's *possible* that the 4th main course option was different - inflight menu was beef short ribs; I can't remember whether the app showed that or a lamb dish - but honestly I think that was the same as well.
So clearly there are some glitches going on here. It's perhaps also worth noting that I was on an AY codeshare booking, which I think had previously meant I wouldn't have the ability to pre-order dishes (that was certainly the case for our outbound journey two weeks earlier). In this case, for the second sector of our return journey, which was still about 30 hours away at that point, I could still pre-order something, which I did, and it worked. So it seems like something has changed in between June and July and maybe they're still ironing out the kinks.

The extra dishes available for pre order have been going on for many months. I have noticed that on DOH-VIE I get six dishes on the main/pre order, but on the plane theres 4 on the menu. I just compare the preorder choices to the actual menu which is now available on the app, which shows 4 and I figure which are the two extra ones and if theyre something to my liking that I should pre-order.
Additionally, on the preorder for DOH-HAN which served a late night dining and breakfast, there was a very nice lamb dish available for preorder that was not part of the late night menu. I took it and it was great, like a main course in a full menu, not snack size.
