Double Miles Offer and Intro Fare to NGO!!

I just booked a RT May 19-23 from MCI-NGO at a fare of $577.50 all in!!! Thats 13,000 miles x 2 for the double mile promotion + 1,000 for bookking online = 27,000 miles. That comes out to 0.02 cents a mile. Pretty good in my opinion.

Has anyone else taken AAdvantage of these two offers?

You can check here, among other threads, for discussion of this (added: I think it's about the same thing, although it's not a "double miles" thing, but a bonus miles thing):

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...&highlight=NGO

Unfortunately for me, my business travel has me going to NRT. The plus side is that it's a non-stop from SJC, whereas I'd have to have a connection through ORD for NGO. Wouldn't be too bad for the double miles but, when it's the company's dime...you do it their way .

Cheers.

Don't mean to be bursting any bubbles here, but I don't think it quite works the way you've got it calculated.

I checked for myself as (i) I love Japan and (ii) I love miles and mileage runs.

The problems I had were:

(i) The promotion rules that I have say that you get up to 15,000 bonus miles for F/J and up to 7,500 for Economy (both round-trip). Is there an actual "double miles" promotion that I don't have or is this what you're referring to.

(ii) If I have the right promotion then I believe the cheap fare you quoted (I found similar out of NY) is a 'Q' fare, which is expressely excluded from the promotion.

(iii) Don't know if you would do it in coach, but if you're planning on upgrading (as I will most likely), don't forget to include the $500 cost.

It's quite possible that the OP was referring to the general DBL05 double miles promotion and not the Double Miles to Nagoya promotion.

And it is 13,000 long miles in coach, 2 cents a mile or not, forget it.

Yes, the OP had to have been referring to the DBL05 promotion that start Tuesday Feb 8. The reason being is the Q fare price the OP quoted is not eligible for the NGO15 bonus as fares beginning with V, L, N, O, Q and S are excluded. Now, if you are Plat you would earn somewhere between 39,454 (ORD-NGO) and 49,924 (LAX-NGO) redeemable miles and get credit for 6,409-8,154 EQM and 3,205-4,077 EQP depending on your originating city.

Flying coach for that long is a pain in the you-know-what. If you upgrade then it will cost 50k miles plus and additoinal $500 which raises the price up to somewhere between $1,077.50 and $1,387. At that price I would go for a YUP to HNL for around $1,200 and get the 1.5 EQP (~16,000 EQP from my location). YMMV

If the OP would like doesn't have Gold status and wants it for the rest of this year, I suspect that the 13K base miles would meet the Gold challenge, and, if any other travel is in the works, Plat is not out of the question.

Yes, I was referring to the DBL05 promotion and not the double miles to Nagoya promotion. Yeah, riding in coach will suck but for 26,000 base miles, Ill do it gladly. Not the best mileage run in the world, but still pretty nice.

If you have no status on AA, you could sign up for the Gold Challenge and get 25% more miles on your return (qualifying) flight, since you will earn .5 EQP per mile flown.

Yeah, great intro fares TO Nagoya if you originate in the States. For those of us who live in Asia, we'd love an intro fare to fly TO the States from Nagoya. Cheapest that the AA agent could offer NGO-STL-NGO was about US$900, while it was many hundreds of dollars cheaper STL-NGO-STL.

Based in TPE, I usually take CX to NRT to connect onward on AA. However, CX has a daily TPE-NGO flight, the schedule of which to and from NGO fits absolutely perfectly to connect up with the AA NGO flight to and from ORD.

Even worse are one way fares.

NGO-JFK is $2473 one way in coach!

JFK-NGO one-way is $505

This factor of 5 difference is huge.

(I flew to Japan one way for an OK price,
did a RTW ticket from Japan, and now
I need to get back. Looks like there are
no cheap one-way tickets Japan-USA).

Well, it's no secret that one fare ways are never a bargain. However, I haven't been able to pull up anything on aa.com from NGO to the States in coach (even checking the "with restrictions" box) for less than around $2200.

So I splurged on an overseas call to AA's platinum desk in the US to ask about fares, and I get the following responses from two different agents.

1) Nagoya, I said. "Na-whatta?" he replied. "Do you have the code for that, sir?"

2) "We don't fly there. What country is that city in anyway?"

It's always nice to start out the day with a good laugh.

I have another question.

I am planning to go to TPE within this period. I wonder if it still counts if part of the trip include NGO-ORD round trip.

I hasn't check the price difference to transfer at NRT or NGO. But if I am eligible for the promotion, I will definately consider that.
