Looks like more official word on the 737 'Express'. I say official as "An airline spokesperson told AirlineGeeks on Monday that these aircraft will be operated in their current configuration, primarily on shorter routes." Not that a site called airlinegeeks is an official source.
https://airlinegeeks.com/2025/03/04/...7-max-service/
From the article:Starting in April, Air Canada plans to add a handful of flights on high-density Boeing 737 MAX 8s. These aircraft were acquired from defunct ultra-low-cost carrier Lynx Air.
From Toronto, the 189-seat aircraft are scheduled on a handful of routes, including to Moncton and Fredericton, New Brunswick; St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador; Thunder Bay, Ontario; Quebec; and Kingston, Jamaica. The jets are in an all-economy class configuration, unlike the airline’s typical 737 MAXs, which have 16 business class seats.

Also, at time of writing, another newbuilds ntu by Lynx, C-FFIS, is enroute from Boeing Field to Windsor.

Probably has also to do with ongoing maintenance costs (techs, training, etc.)
As an aside, it's fun to see AC bringing in several ULCC planes as-is (Lynx 7M8) in seat configuration with ... 29" pitch and no recline. As a full service carrier. What a wonderful customer experience to be stuck on a 189Y for up to 6 hours. That's wild.

Express is a brand. Anybody can operate it. Currently, Jazz & PAL operate Express flights. Hence, these will be operated by Air Canada, for Air Canada Express...

On this note, I have updated the Wiki to append "brand" to Air Canada, Express, Jets, Rouge etc. Hope thats fine with folks.

So this makes me wonder, now that ACE has aircraft with significantly longer range capabilities, exactly what is ACE supposed to "be"? Up until the 7M8 additions, it was mostly synonymous with short haul transborder and regional flights. Now it's...?

imo, the answer is that Air Canada doesn't have a branding strategy and doesn't care if its brands become even more incoherent
(for what it's worth, YYZ-KIN is the only route listed here that would be significantly longer than other Express routes)

Fair. I forgot about the -300/400/500 in between the orginal -100/200 and NG. I'll take it back and say that the 77W/L are like the -300/400/500 with new engines and pylons on a similar/identical body and the 779 is more akin to the NG with a new wing, larger body and tweaked engine in both cases.

It has been confirmed that there was an error made by the paint shop and Express should not have been on the aircraft and it will be removed.

The pictures on Reddit don't look like they were actually painted.
I thought it was the template or prep work for printing, but it might just be a very elaborate prank? I can't exactly see how it could be a "mistake" or done "erroneously".. Although stranger things had happened to Cathay once...

Well, I was looking forward to getting on one of the 763s in a couple weeks, but now that's been downgauged to a 223.
Oh well.
