for lifetime if you are already GfL or GGLfL, that should remain.
the new lifetime status levels will be:
GfL- 550,000 Tier Points
GGLfL- 1,500,000 Tier Points
Members proportional progress towards Lifetime thresholds (presumably as of 1 April 2025?) will be preserved and be based on the % of their current progress.

I do think that GfL will become more valuable and for those of us that have it and no longer chase GGL it may overall be a win. There will be far fewer people using GF, TFW and FCI at LHR. Equally LGW GF will be quieter as will outstation first CIs and lounges. I recall well the days when being a GCH was a passport to great service and recognition but the sheer number of us over the last decade or so has really watered down the attention available.

as you get a credit based on the % of lifetime points, if you already have 100%+ lifetime points, your new lifetime balance after 1 april will be abover 100%. i don't see how it can be anything other

Has anyone on here, including our moderators, been asked for input, reaction before this landed? The mods and evangelists seem as surprised as everyone else?
How are the people on this forum here that have chats with the high value team in the CCR feeling? Did they opine on this? Were they even asked? Did they know something big was coming?
Is it possible that something so major as this wasn't at all evaluated with customer input, even under NDA?
Or, has this has been a secret project with the C-Suite and Consultants that didn't reach the CCR, the First Class rollout event etc?
Thoughts?

I think many people anticipated BA was moving to a revenue based model. The writing was on the wall - given they had not announced anything regarding the BA Holidays Double Tier Points promotion, which ends in June. This leads me to believe the decision was made a long time ago (perhaps at the same time as when they aligned everyone's tier point years).
I also think forums like ours represent a small subset of the total user base. Most of my friends and family know almost nothing about tier points so this won't make a difference to them. But enthusiasts like us also likely represent a percentage (even if single digits) of their revenues, and given how quickly airlines can find themselves heading into the red due to changes outside their control, BA should thread likely when pissing off that user segment.
At the end of the day, I can see the appeal for BA to switch to a revenue based loyalty model - it was probably the right thing to do. Where I'm really dubious is how they've priced it. It should be hard but not so hard that people won't bother trying. Setting the thresholds at half of what they went for would probably have worked best 10,000 is probably still really hard, BUT it then offers them the flexibility of using promotions to get people to push for status. I fear what they've done is remove that incentive entirely for customers so now they'll have to work harder for every ticket they sell, which will harm their bottom line.

I feel an easier solution would have been just to increase the points required for each tier, rather than dropping this out of blue on many of BAs most loyal customers.
I am fortunate enough to be able to renew gold under the new system, however currently once I have earned my GUF2 I will fly KLM to break up the BA flying a bit. I need to ask myself realistically if I can justify the spend as someone who books flight only usually J or F.

Perhaps a huge blessing in disguise
Above 60k lifetime TP and with annual spending on 80-120k on flights, I now feel less obliged to fill the gap to GGLfl, cant conceive not enjoying other F experiences and rushing to spend another 600k on BA before I become too old to fly
And after all I can be in the CCR every time I fly F, which is pretty much everytime I pass trough LHR, and should I feel upset because no-one is picking me up in a car like a GGLfl Ill fly LH or AF and feel important whenever I need attention

What alternative FF schemes are people thinking of moving to? Obviously other IAG schemes will follow suit, but is AS or QR any good? Presumably there will be "own metal" requirements that render these options impractical for most.
I am now rather inclined to book the flights necessary to retain my SAS EBG status match for another year... Who knows, I may like it enough to stick with them.

The BAEC has been the most successful program going for encouraging me to send my business Oneworlds way instead of competitors. Not only that, but encouraging me to give them extra business when I didnt even need to.
Now that will evaporate on the spot and is a big gap for someone else to take that away from BA.
I see how this is worth it for them personally, who cares about status when spending the levels they are talking about? There is a lot of DYKWIA who will be particularly ****ed about losing their status.
On the surface its sad/annoying. In reality it will end up being a healthy life benefit not caring about this stuff any more, spending and flying less.

Can definitely see this will hurt a lot of people. But having predicted for a couple of years it was coming, it doesn't surprise me BA has gone this route. I'm just most surprised at the cash spend requirement. Seems nuts considering how dreadful UK salaries are. But I'm sure BA's done its sums. As bad as they are at many elements, I'm confident their rev team knows what it's doing. I'm sure AA's had some input here. Probably sick of their lounges full of silvers and golds earned on hardly anything.
Not the foggiest what my actual spend has been in the past couple of years, but I'd hazard a guess I'm at enough to get Silver.
I have been grappling with the idea of getting out for a while as I have felt a sort of pressure to keep chasing status and keep things on OW when other airlines sometimes offer much better prices. I've already got a QR trip booked in that gets me Gold until 2026 and wife Silver, so we can enjoy that and the Silver soft landing will tie us over until we decide best way forward.
This honestly may be the kick I need to stop spending expendable income on long-haul flying and just focus on booking what works for us.
I've got a GUF (deadline to use May) and a big pot of avios we can use for a big trip. Either SA or India. Based on the numbers above, I dread to think how much will need to be earned for a GUF in the future. It won't be worth it at that spend.

Also hilarious that bronze will be attainable without ever setting foot on a BA or OW plane.

Reflecting on this more, the credit card tier point earning just feels out of whack with the whole direction of revenue-based earning being mainly a US invention and mainly about credit card economics. I think that if they were to set it to 10,000-12,500 tier points available from AMEX PP in return for a decent spend (say 50K), they'd be able to both drive tons of credit card spend but also paid tickets on BA. 2,500 is just a distraction.

Mrs drpabs is very probably going to have to go on a business trip in February to Sydney and was considering booking it as a BA Holiday. Am I right in thinking if she were to do this then she would receive double TPs under the current system, or should I tell her not to bother booking it as a BA Holiday? (I think she would quite like the nudge it would give her towards GfL ahead of the ghastly new system).
