Please post your IHG Rewards Experiences 2024
Holiday Inn – the niu Seven Düsseldorf Ost (Gerresheim)
What is your Priority Club status?
Ambassador Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
In general yes.
I only needed a room for a night. Major criteria for this hotel was the least expensive room rates of all IHG hotels, the good connection to public transportation and the A3 motorway. The hotel is not very old.
The area around the hotels is residential and a free space. There are not much to see in the proximity to the hotel, though Gerresheim as a kind of city centre with shops. The old town is a 25 minutes tram / subway ride (U73) and a two stop S-Bahn ride to main station.
The hotel has four floors with the top floor having only rooms on one side.
The check-in desks are opposite the entrance. Two desks are available to check-in guest, and both were staffed on this Saturday afternoon, though one agent was at the phone. There was no waiting time as I was the only guest. The reservation was retrieved from the system and like in other “the niu” hotels the information for IHG members were prepared in advance. The agent thanked me for being IHG One Rewards Diamond Member. I was asked about my choice of amaneity. Points, snack or drink were offered, but not breakfast. There was a slight confusion about the breakfast, as the homepage mentioned breakfast as being included, which was not the case and is an error on the homepage. I went with the points anyway, but have had to ask for breakfast as amenity myself.
Not the first hotel, which did not mention breakfast as amenity for Diamonds, nevertheless not the best first impression. The agent was friendly.
A keycards were programmed, and I was on my way to the room. Elevators are at the front of the hotel
The ground floor is a bit cramped as the hotel is not very wide. The bar area is adjacent to the check in are. There are few chairs and tables where you can get drinks and light snacks in the evening. The breakfast restaurant follows. The areas are divided by panels. Breakfast is served starting at 06:30 till 10:30 on weekdays and 07:00 till 11:30 on weekends and holidays
There is also a shop where you can but beverages and snacks.
There is no fitness center.
Check-Out was friendly on the early morning. The invoice was printed as requested and correct.
The parking garage was already full. Parking in the proximity of the hotel is also limited. I was lucky and got a spot on the street, but cars of other guest parking in front of the hotel got a parking ticket in the morning.
Which room did you book, and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked the cheapest room a Standard Room (19 square metres) on a fully flexible rate, and I received this room. The hotel also offers Premium Rooms (22 square metres) but no other room type. It was fine to me not to get an upgrade on this short stay. And to be honest, as this was a sleep-only-stay, I did not really need a larger room.
How are the rooms?
My room was located on the 4th floor far away from the elevator.
The room does follow the typical layout. One is in a quite narrow hallway leading to the room. The hallways is narrow as the open closet it placed there. There were only two hangers in the closet, which also had a mirror and safe.
The bathroom could be accessed from the hallway. It consists of shower, sink and toilet. Storage space next to the sink was okay. Hairdryer was available on a hook in the bathroom. Mirror was not heated, but the bathroom had a heated floor, though I did forget to turn it on in the evening. No bathrobe and slippers. Some hooks in the bathroom were available to hang utensils.
There was no shower door, but this time it was large to avoid water running on the floor. Water pressure was okay, though the temperature changed slightly. Only bath foam / shampoo was provided as wall mounted bottles, lotion was missing. As a general note, this shampoo / shower gel is in my opinion very cheap and smells not very good.
The bed was to the left-hand side of the room. The bed were again two single beds moved together, so no king / queen bed with a single mattress. Two bedside tables with wall mounted reading lamps. USB Plugs (USB A) were at both sides of the bed as part of the regular socket. Lights could be switched on / off from the bed.
Opposite the bed was the large TV and the mobile device could be connected via Bluetooth to the screen. There was a small desk next to the tv with a shelf. Not really a good place, if you need to do some real work. Two power outlets at the desks were available, which was nice.
No iron and ironing board and also no phone, no minibar or fridge and no kettle.
The hotel is not that old, but the rooms show a little bit of wear. The design is modern but, in this case, uninspired. Quality of furniture is good, though the arrangement in the small room was not the best. Everything appeared cramped and to use customized furniture to make better use of the space would have been better.
The fully flexible rate was 80 EUR / night. This was booked before the cyber sale and as the hotel was available. It was sold out before the day I booked and also later. All other hotels were above 100 EUR at time of booking.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Good
Good connection to public transport
Staff is friendly and helpful
Water Pressure
Neutral
No kettle
No lotion in bath
agent did not mention breakfast as amenity
Parking situation around the hotel
uninspired design
Bad
no real desk and desk chair
cramped breakfast area and public spaces are small
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good, and staff is friendly. The room rates offer usually a very good value for money (often to be found below 60 EUR).
Rooms are okay. Design is okay, though the room are small and do not have amenities like kettle, phone or ironing board. The missing real desk could be an issue for some business-travellers. It was the less inspired design on all Niu hotels I stayed so far.
I will return, as it offers a good value for money and if you only need a room for the night or arrive later, spend the evening elsewhere and leave the next morning and do not need the amenities, then this is a good option. It is not very central, but if you do not mind a 25 minutes subway ride (subway runs till 01:00 am) this is not a bad place to discover Düsseldorf and safe money.
My person caveat is that breakfast is only available at 06:30.
As my stays in Düsseldorf are usually heavy workload stays with an early start and late finish, my preferences are slightly different than on business trips. In so far I will chose this hotel for longer stay (unlike the one in Frankfurt) if the options more centrally located are more expensive and / or I do need to built-up nights

What is your Priority Club status? Platinum
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Generally Yes
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Privelege room booked, "upgraded" to an executive room.
This property sells only standard and privelege rooms with different numbers of beds. No suites or any other "levels" of basic room.
So no suite to be upgraded into and they don't sell "executive" rooms, so i was a little mystified as i approached the room.
It's basically empty and very little to differentiate it from the privelege room except what was missing - an exercise machine, separate chair, coffee machine, slippers, at least from what i remember from before; none of which i would probably have used anyway. There was 1 bath robe though... So much for "an upgrade"
I was too tired to complain to reception, I think the receptionist just gave me any room he could and said "upgrade" as i was a platinum to get rid of me.
The next day another receptionist confirmed they don't have executive rooms, nothing above privelege. Very friendly and helpful with information, offered me another handful of drink vouchers but i declined.
I wasnt really bothered (by the lack of exercise machine etc), it's not like i was there to enjoy the facilities on vacation. But i do object to being intentionally misled.
How are the rooms?
Spartan. little design warmth to welcome you in or give your the impression of a welcome. Almost furnished as a HIX "plus"
still in reasonable condition after all these years
comparatively small, but big enough for 1 on a business trip.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
good
for me, closer to my customer than others, easy access to the highways nearby
big, comfortable bed
decent sized closed wardrobe
good wifi
ask the breakfast staff for your coffee of choice and they'll make a proper one for you; they're much nicer than the ones from the machines on the side.
If you're not there for Milan Centre then it could be quite convenient with Monza just across the way, and lots of local industry if thats your thing
easy access to the TV HDMI connectors
It's not as bad as i may make it out to be, just it doesn't "shine". As a place to sleep, get a shower and do a little work its perfectly fine.
Heating is very effective, in fact too much so some times.
10% discount in the restaurant for all guests.
bad
Their upgrade policy as above - first time i've experienced that here
the flexible shower base is very disconcerting
small bar area/doorways
restaurant a la carte food wasn;t very impressive - first time i've eaten here and unless i have other flight delays in the future also the last.
The irony that at most hotels i visit now that the shower is blocked, but the sink plug can't hold a basin of water for more than a few seconds.
Rooms on the back side of the hotel have a lot of road noise from the A4 right outside. Ask for a room at the front (as i had)
frequent bus loads of tourist who block the lobby area/doorways, slow down lift usage dramatically, etc. At least they have a separate breakfast room. The coaches block car park access as they load/unload
If you're looking for a cheaper IHG vacation hotel for Milan centre this is not for you. There are few local resources and the closest metro stop is a 25 min walk, (and no-where to park if you drive there)
I wasn't offered at checkin a welcome drink or points. As i came by reception after eating i asked the same receptionist for it but his response was "but you've just eaten!". Huh? So what! just give me the voucher...
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
around 135/night with breakfast booked at the last minute. But it's our company preferred hotel, so i'll be back in a few months.

"upgraded" to a room with car park view
received a welcome gift of a couple of caneles
free parking

If you arrive by following your GPS, do not arrive locally using the southerly access road. it's more of a local wide track, unpaved with huge potholes.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
90/night booked at the last minute. Probably won't return as it's not where i'll be visiting again - no obvious issue with the property.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
2 Twin Premium, received 2 Twin Premium (this is the only room category which offers twin beds so wasn't expecting any upgrades)
How are the rooms?
Great. Our room was in a corner of the property and quite large, more rectangular-shaped than squareish. Beds were large and comfy, there was also a small desk, coffee table and lounge chair, ample storage space, large TV with local and international channels and a bright, functional bathroom with the brand-standard Biology toiletries. Only small flaws with the room were a shower which had the potential to leak into the bathroom a little if you weren't careful and some issues with the safe; it wasn't working on arrival and the hotel engineer came by early the next morning to fix it, however it broke again and we decided to just leave it as is after that. Neither were deal breakers for us so we were very happy with the room overall.

€169/night for four nights which was great value. Easily the best of the five IHG properties visited on this trip to Europe, it was also my second stay at an Indigo and both have been great so I'm quite liking this brand. Would absolutely return, although perhaps in a warmer month next time

The Good
- Arrival experience - we arrived around 10:45pm and must have been the last guests scheduled to arrive for the day as the receptionist correctly guessed my name. Despite the late hour he quickly went through all the hotel features such as the gym, evening sauna, breakfast offering (including recommendations for places nearby) and even the bikes they had available to borrow. He also noted that although I have a high-floor preference on my IHG profile, all the twin rooms were located on lower floors. He was able to offer a King room on a higher floor but we were perfectly fine with what we had booked.
- The "Premium" room type includes a complimentary minibar, the receptionist confirmed this at check in and said it would be replenished daily. I was expecting it to be pretty basic but to my surprise it had sparkling water, 7 Up, local beer (Lapin Kulta), imported beer (Heineken), a small bottle of prosecco, a small bottle of French red wine, a bag of lollies, a local Fazer chocolate and finally, a can of salted peanuts! Definitely made use of all the snacks and drinks - all room types also receive a complimentary bottle of water left on the coffee table and replenished daily.
- Welcome drink vouchers could be used for a wide variety of drinks including a quintessential Finnish lonkeroor long drink, a gin with grapefruit soda. The long drink was very nice.
- Didn't get a chance to try the sauna or gym, but we did visit the gym and it looked pretty good. Both sauna and gym are in the basement.
- Location - great spot on Boulevard/Bulevardi, one of the primary east-west thoroughfares in the city centre. Less than ten minutes walk to Esplanadi and around twenty minutes to Senate Square and the waterfront. We mostly walked but there is also a great tram system and metro, taxis/Uber are also readily available at all hours. Some highlights for us were a day trip by ferry to Tallinn, the Oodi library, the Kiasma museum, the beautifully designed churches/chapels around the city and even just walking around, especially on Esplanadi, Bulevardi and the shopping area on Mannerheimintie.
- Great dining nearby - Ravintolla Nolla behind the hotel is an absolute must, it has won multiple awards and was our favourite meal of the entire trip. Other good options include Ekburg 1852 for breakfast/lunch and Lappi Ravintola for Lappish cuisine, lots of salmon and reindeer!
- Staff were fantastic throughout - very personable, welcoming and service-focused. Even when checking out at 5:15am the receptionist offered us a free coffee to go from the bar.
The Bad
- Nothing

So-so, but we have to remember that this hotel has just opened!
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked WA-KA-RAN Bay View Suite, received same.
How are the rooms?
61SQM. located on 3rd (Penthouse) floor. This Suite is the 2nd highest category room. But, I believe this Suite is the best room in this hotel coz the highest Suite (KAPITAN Garden Terrace Suite) is located on the ground floor and has no view. 65 inch Toshiba LCD TV, BOSE Bluetooth audio, Nespresso, sofa set, and dining table.
Video of WA-KA-RAN Bay View Suite:
How is the exec. lounge?
This hotel does not have exec. lounge.
What was your welcome gift?
Castella cake (Nagasaki Specialty), and handkerchief
What was good?
+++++++++ Best location for sightseeing. Very close to Oura Cathedral (National Tresure of Japan), Glover Garden, and famous Si Hai Lou noodles restaurant.
+++++++++ Elegant design (Renovated from the old monastery)
What was bad?
----- No Bar
----- Limited restaurant menu
----- To get to the hotel, you have to climb a steep gradient of about 20%. (I strongly recommend the use of a taxi for arrival and departure from this hotel.)
----- Hotel doesn't follow IHG global standard in many parts. (Coz this hotel is the owner's first IHG hotel. This owner mainly operates Marriott hotels).
Value for $ or Rewards Club Points?
Yes
Would you return?
Yes
What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Diamond Inner Circle Royal Ambassador
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
So-so, but we have to remember that this hotel has just opened!
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked WA-KA-RAN Bay View Suite, received same.

Very much so!
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked four nights on points and was upgraded to the Grand Corner room
How are the rooms?
Very well situated. His and her sinks and a nice tub that’s in the shower room. There was enough space to where I’d feel comfortable staying here for a week or so.
How is the exec. lounge?
n/a
What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Good service at breakfast with a decent spread
5 min walk to higobashi station
Bar was nice with some good food
Room was spacious
Very good ramen nearby
Bad
Gym was small
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Not sure if this is the standard upgrade for diamonds but I was very happy. The upgraded room was about 40,000 a night if I would have booked with cash which seems in line with other western hotels with similar sized rooms. I’d book with cash if I could not get the upgrade

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, a good location quite close to U Bahn station
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked queen standard and upgraded to a larger room. Check-in said executive room
How are the rooms?
It was larger but mainly just in space, no furnishing except for an extra sofa bed.
How is the exec. lounge? N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Good European style breakfast
Very quiet
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Felt good value for the points. Everything around Nuremberg is expensive at this time of the year. Yes we would use the hotel again.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? It was fine.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? We booked a standard twin and that is what we got.
How are the rooms? Fine. Two beds, a desk and chair and a pouffe for the second guest. Open wardrobe. Safe in the room. Shower room with Soak amenities. One teabag with the kettle but a note directing guests to contact reception if more were needed. One between two guests seemed a bit stingy.
How is the exec. lounge? NA
What was good and what was bad? Good - we were given a couple of bottles of Evian at check in. Free transit from the airport.
Bad - mean in room teabag allowance.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return? We spent around 8 hours here. Flight landed at 23.00 and we left early to go the IC Paris LG. The room was just under €100. I paid a supplement for my son as the quoted rate for for a single guest, which was strange.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked: 1 King Standard
Used CSU to upgrade to 1 King Junior Suite Kitchenette, which is what I got.
How are the rooms?
Clean and comfortable.
How is the exec. lounge?
Very good for a Crowne Plaza. I only went there for the evening canapes and while not IC quality, I was satisfied with the food and bar service. For breakfast I went to the main restaurant, as there is more choice and any ŕ la carte orders in the lounge would be prepared in the main restaurant anyway.
What was good and what was bad?
+ Location - close to both MRT Blue line and BTS Silom line.
+ Clean room.
- "Juices" in the restaurant actually aren't 100% juice, but sweetened fruit drinks.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good value for points + CSU. I would potentially return, but may out of curiousity stay at other Bangkok hotels first, as there's plenty to try!

What is your Priority Club status?

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
In general yes.
I stayed here a couple of times during 2024, but as the last report is now over a year old, I thought I give an update.
The tram stop “Bürostadt Niederrad” is next to the hotel, S-Bahn Station Niederrad is a seven minute walk. Parking is during the weekend possible at the street next to the hotel. Some of the reasons for me to stay here
I booked a Fully Flexible Standard Room. Was upgrade to a Premium Room on the top floor.
If you enter the hotel, you are right in a big lobby with the check-in desk opposite the entrance and the bar to left. The bar is open to the lobby and not separated, thus making the lobby and the bar a bit noisy, especially if a bigger group is arriving. Right hand side is the restaurant, which is only open during fair and by higher demand. At all other times the bar serves also as restaurant
There are three lifts to reach either the pool and the garage in the basement or the floors with the rooms. On this day only one of the three lifts worked adding to the waiting time. During the morning of the second day, another lift became available. I was told this were scheduled maintenance, but no workers were seen.
Located in the basement are sauna, steam bath, whicg are open in the morning and from 16.00 to 22:00. The pool is still closed (for over a year now and I doubt it will reopen anytime soon). There is a gym connected to the pool with machines from the time when this was a Sheraton. The number of machines are reduced if I am not wrong and two were out of order. Small towels and water were provided in the gym. The gym is open 24 hours; the door is no longer locked, so you can access the gym 24/7..
Check In was quick with not waiting time on a Thursday early afternoon at 14:00. Two agents were on duty. Status was partly recognized as I was told that I received an upgrade. I was asked about my choice of Diamond Amenity and I took the beverage voucher as I was not in the mood for breakfast.
I skipped breakfast. From earlier visits, it is still the same. The selection was okay, though the quality has not improved. Coffee is provided in small thermos jugs on the table, Tea was available from a Samowar. Different juices (including tomato juice): The selection of fruits was average as was cheese, salami. Humus and cut cucumber and tomatoes were available. I missed Salmon during my last visit before this one. Staff was attentive, but if they are busy, it could take some time before used plates are cleared.
Hot items were scrambled eggs, potatoes, small burger, sausages, ham. Also, you get eggs prepared by a chef (but they do not make poached eggs).
I had dinner in the restaurant. The restaurant was not very busy and the service very attentive. I opted again for a Cesar Salad and the waiter recommended a different wheat beer than my usual choice and tasted good. He was attentive yet not to obtrusive.
It was this time not possible to use the food credit as milestone amenity. The agent was unable (or unwilling) to assist. IHG told me, that the folio was not yet processed. As I approached the desk, I asked about the milestone amenity and the agent told me, she could nothing do. I had noticed that they had already charged the stay during check-In. The agent was also unable to produce a folio with everything on it. In so far, I say unwilling, because I am under the impression, that the staff can apply it as well from experiences during a number of other stays. The f&b voucher has a validity till summer 2025 so not that big problem.
Check out was okay, though the – imo – unwillingness to support with the F&B voucher. Late Check out of 14:00 was granted without problems.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard and received Room with Free Minibar on top floor overlooking the parking in front of the hotel (i.e. not city views)
How are the rooms?
My room was located on the top floor (13th floor) away from the elevator.
Next to the entrance was the small bathroom.
The rooms are very small. If you stay in the room with two persons, the space to move is very limited.
The bathroom could be reached from the hallway. It has bath, sink and toilet. Nice, the shower is separated by a wall rather than a glass panel, but the wall is a bit short, and you cannot avoid water dripping on the floor while taking a shower and the floor of the bathroom can become slippery quite quickly. Water pressure of the shower was good. The showerhead was okay. The pug however was blocked, so that it was not possible to take a bath. The heater in the bathroom did not work (this was the second room, so I think I was either both times unlucky or they simply turned them off)
The wash basin is okay.
The room had a small place to store your luggage along. The closet offers enough space to store belongings. The room was re-done. There is an ottoman in front of the window with a reading lamp. Opposite was a small desk. Tea and coffee facilities. The French press is no longer available, though still advertised.
The minibar is placed at the desk. If offers only still water and a coke. Two bottles of sparkling water was placed net to the amenity, which was Christmas themed.
The space is limited as mentioned in other reports. It is difficult to work and if you need papers it will be difficult to place them next to a laptop. But this was already the case during the time the hotel was a Sheraton. USB Ports are available at the desk along with a power outlet
The mattress of the bed was okay. The two bedside tables are rather small.
Windows could be opened, but there could be some street noise.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Good
Good connection to public transport
Windows could be opened
rates are cheap
Sauna, and steam bath
Welcome Amenity
Neutral
Cost cutting measures regarding quality breakfast buffet and minibar
location
Lobby and bar could be noisy
Not very supportive staff this time
rooms and gym begin to show lack of maintenance
Bad
small rooms
Unable to redeem f&B amenity
pool closed without announcement on homepage
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The location is good, especially if you want street parking. Downtown Frankfurt is a 15 m minutes tram ride. The rooms are of smaller size.
The Room and gym begin to show the lack of maintenance. The upgrade to a room with a free minibar as part of the upgrade is nice. Rates are often below 80 EUR, especially during the weekend
Food is still okay.
I will return, as it still offers a good value for money, but as frequent guest you notice some cost cutting measures and the lack of proper maintenance.
