First time flying TATL J as a E75K since losing my SE status. AC901 AMS-YUL on June 15. (Due to a last minute equipment swap from 788 to 789, everyone on the upgrade list cleared and we're leaving with 3 empty seats in J).
To my surprise, meal orders were taken with recognition of status even below SE. The FA was clearly cross-crossing the cabin, and my order was taken maybe 5th or 6th.

I was on AC1169 a couple of days ago and was pleasantly surprised as a 75K to have my order taken after the SE's and before other passengers sat further forward of me in J.

Think this is the correct thread- eUpgrade related.
I cleared waitlist on 18 June for my 27 June AC996 (YVR MEX) flight. 75k status, Flex M Booking.
On the flight (in row 3/4) I'm snoozing, get tapped on the arm asking if I'm joining for dinner and what meal I would like. I choose lasagna (ginger chicken other choice and I did not like it on a prior occasion), then person next to me (unrelated) also chooses lasagna.
I'm snoozing again but I guess a few minutes later, another tap on the arm to tell me I cannot have my meal choice, someone in row 4 doesn't like spicy and cannot have the chicken. She (the SD) says that I should have been asked last.. sorry.
When she returns for drinks I ask why I could not have my meal choice.. she says it's 'what the ipad says' and she has to go by that. I ask if it's status related and she's not sure but comes back with the ipad and says it's because I eupgraded.
Is this correct? Anyone ever have something similar happen? Should I write in?
Ron.

If you have status you have status, shouldn't matter how you arrived in the J cabin.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right...I'm an SE/MM and almost always in J via UG...unless they've started to take orders and I've boarded super late I always seem to be at the top of the list.

Careful. Upgraded PAX are not even guaranteed a meal, IIRC.
My experience as a frequently upgraded PAX on TATL flights is that I do get asked early for my meal choice, however on a recent MIA-YYZ ACr flight I was told there was no meal for me (I was last to be upgraded), however a meal did magically appear after everyone else had been served.

On a recent YYZ-FRA flight, I was the second last in a full J cabin to be asked about my meal. There's no way everyone was higher status because I was top of the eupgrade list and I saw some 50k tags upon boarding, and moreover ordering seemed clearly to be by seat number. At that point, the only meal I wanted (the vegetarian option) wasn't available.
It became clear on the flight that the FA who took orders was new (at least to J). Weirdly, though, I saw no attempt by the SD to advise or mentor her. Lately I have had very good service on most of my TATL J flights. I have no idea how new FAs are trained but wouldn't it be normal for a SD (or other FA) to guide/mentor someone new? Specific things I noticed on this flight aside from the FA not following meal order priority:
- no greeting from the SD (to me or anyone, from what I could see)
- not asking while taking orders whether pax wanted to be woken for breakfast
- putting tablecloth upside down and in wrong orientation (both table and tablecloth are rectangular), from the way FA handled them it was clear she didn't realise they weren't both squares of the same size and that one side of the tablecloth has a hem and the other does not
- forgetting to offer pax salad dressing
- the safety announcement was given twice, but in French both times (manually, as there was a brief problem with the IFE)
- all bins above the first three seats on both sides of the right aisle were full of AC bags and spare amenity kits (red bags that say 'property of AC' - what are those?)
- no mention or sign of the late night snack basket
These last points are a bit off-topic, but germane to the thread because the thread concerns the consistency and quality of FA service-training (as opposed to safety training).

It's got nothing to do with meal priority. SE and VIP get meal priority.
In your , she didn;t ask you last.... be it by chance or whatever reason, so that;s fine, and she didn;t mention any issue at the time of your order.
The issue is that she should have simply told the other passenger that the meal wasn;t avail.
I imagine in the back end of operations they can already see days out that the upgrade list is massive, thus catering for full load i would ithink.
Chalk it up to poor staff.
Writing in for this... i wouldn;t bother.... not worth the already known response
