Tomorrow at the Delta1 lounge:
The string quartet will be the first on the chopping bord and enhanced away ...l...
It'll be a guessing game how long some of Delta 1 lounge amenities are going to last similair to the champers at JFK's lounges of Chelsea, Soho and Greenwich...(bloggers away and the booze disappears?)

I do agree with others that are not swayed by the Tim Dunn phantasm of worshipping devotion,
that charging for drinks in what is Delta's top lounge flagship offering doesn't impress to premium exhaltation.....

With the $ pricing to be paid for the premium beverages, i do wonder:
- is it inclus NY sales tax, vat, service charge?
- are we forced to start tipping, > 20% - 38,5 % ?
- does $ spend count for the right coding to generate Xpoints if paying with the appropiate creditcards .....?
- did DL get inspired and interested by their joint venture partner KLM... especially KL's Non-Schengen lounge 52 Blue bar to charge for "premium offerings" .... see below if you can spot the cpm value in Flying Blue miles & versus the SkyMiles & $ for the Delta 1 premium offerings .....

At the KLM Crowne Lounge 52 non-Schengen:
Spoiler

- if premium beverages are chargable, it is just a small step to switch to charge for premium food offerings ... similair to KLM's Crowne Lounge flop Blue restaurant : https://thepointsguy.com/news/klm-pa...-class-lounge/
(although Already went bust as no sensible Dutchie would partake yet, or citing the effect of the pandemic)

At least with the UA Polaris lounge f&b there is no need to worry about any extra costs incurred ...no experience with AA Flagship First dining.

As you might have guess ped, i've been very cynical and a bit of a heckler ....
i'll end on a positive note;
i do like that Delta 1 lounge's showerooms come with a shower AND a toilet ....
just saying i appreciate that premium touch of having the opportunity for a complete refresher

Most likely no as to tax (so add 8.875%), and definitely not as to gratuities.

Fancy lounge is just lip stick on a pig charging for premium drinks. Deltas premium greed nickeling and dimming, not impressed with the photos if any of yall have been to lounges in Asia or the Middle East. Only a mater of time before Delta unbundles wine and drinks in Delta One in flight and starts to charge like the lounge? At least the Sapphire Lounge and Centurion Lounge hasnt stooped down to this low level of slapping your high paying customers in the face looking for even more money. Delta attempted passengers paying for food before at the JFK Sky Club and that bombed. Less cost for alcohol to store so I dont expect this going away the pay to drink premium. Will premium drinks counts towards MQDs?

I thought Id add some more thoughts on the lounge while on my ride back into the city. I had to miss Ed Bastians speech, so I wont be able to report on that. I was able to speak to a few Delta execs on general plans for the airline. Apologies that some of this isnt related to the lounge. I also wasnt able to get clear answers on some of the access questions above. Apologies for that too.
  • Again, this lounge is gorgeous. The finishes are top notch and in-line with the best first class lounges in the world.
  • It is large, but very well-segmented and each space feels contained and welcoming.
  • The staff were truly amazing and kind, as were the Delta execs I spoke with.
  • Some of the branding/terms in the lounge are hilarious. The Sky Deck is labeled as a Scented Arbor on one sign.
  • The Sky Deck is like the new LGA Sky Deck with a retractable roof. It is air conditioned for the heat. I do wish it would have mimicked the LAX deck, but I realize they wanted it to be operational year round.
  • While some of the drinks are priced, I did ask the bartenders and there really is a significant amount of premium spirits that are available at no cost.
  • The food selection and presentation, if they keep it up, is remarkable. Feels like an Eataly.
  • The business quiet area is quite nice, as are the phone booths.
  • There is nothing on the lower level of the lounge except an entrance/exit to the gates. I wonder what Delta will do with the remainder of the space.
  • The spa is a small but nice area with three treatments - head and neck massage, eye treatment, forearm skin treatment.
  • Espresso and custom coffee beverages are available at the bar. I had three iced americanos. Im quite caffeinated right now.
  • I could not get a definitive answer on if additional Delta One lounges were coming outside of BOS and LAX.
  • Seattle was mentioned by a few execs as a challenging hub - which we already knew.
  • No plans to resume long-haul East Asia flying from JFK. Which really sucks.
  • I asked if there was any consideration to add a flight like SEA to SIN, and I was told about how great it is to connect in Seoul haha. But who knows, maybe one day it will come.
  • Expect a lot more growth in the BARN markets - Boston, Austin, Raleigh, Nashville

I’m not a wine person so the complimentary wine list that’s been posted means nothing to me… but at least the complimentary spirits (going off what’s in the cocktails) are comparable to many international business class lounges run by foreign carriers. We have to remember, this is just an international business class lounge. And a lot of the international J lounges I’ve been to of airlines that are not part of the ME3 (i.e BA’s Galleries at LHR; JL’s Sakura Lounges) are pretty mediocre.

Agreed that the pricing of "premium" drinks, in addition to being gauche in principle, is all over the place: the Ridge Lytton Springs is more or less retail, but the half bottle of Taittinger is well above retail.

That said, the complimentary drinks are pretty decent (a Manhattan with Michael's; a decent Oregon pinot noir), and those Bordeaux seem about on par with what I've had in VS and AF lounges. To me it'd make more sense just to keep the complimentary drinks, which are high end enough, and not court the ill will of the premium ones.

Thanks so much for taking the time to take the photos and report back here on the event. The club looks beautiful, I can't wait to try it out!

So much for purchasing a refundable Delta One ticket just to access the lounge and then canceling upon entry, as the T&C prohibit this.
  • Usage of a Delta One ticket to access the Delta One Lounge without good faith intent to fly on the ticketed itinerary is a violation of these House Rules and may result in permanent disqualification from accessing the Delta One Lounge and the Delta Sky Club.

They certainly don't want a repeat of this:

I confirmed with DL that youll have D1 access in both directions.

Thinking more about the premium alcohol - Im not inherently against this. I appreciate the opportunity to splurge for a special occasion.

However (1) the base/complimentary offering needs to be pretty good and decent variety. I dont know any of the wines I saw on the list upthread (2) the premium offerings should be more limited in scope and with a clear differentiation in quality from the base options (3) pricing should be no more than retail, ideally a bit less, which would still probably give DL a decent margin, whereas theyre losing money on the free stuff.

Otherwise it has the potential to feel like nickeling and diming.

Also, I suppose this is geared more toward couples as there are no per glass options and only a few half-bottles.
