Discussion of the discontinued Sears MasterCards which earn ThankYou Points has been moved to a separate thread, HERE.

Application link for the Shop Your Way (SYW) MasterCard is HERE.

Accumulating points, expiration, and redemptions:
You can accumulate SYW points in some of the following methods:
  • Bonus offers sent to your email (ie: Spend $750 on Online and get 200,000 SYW Bonus points)
  • Regular spend - categories: 5% in gas, 3% in grocery/restaurants, 2% in SYW Merchants, 1% everywhere else
  • "Missions" in the SYW App (iPhone/Android)
Expiration of points:
Not all points have the same expiration timeframe. Some bonus/incentive points expire in 30 days or less. Most are 1 year. You can check in the SYW app, or the shopyourway.com website. Make sure to redeem the points before they expire!!!!

Redemptions:
You can only redeem $200 worth per day. So if you redeem for a $200 GC, you have to wait until the next day to make another redemption of any amount.

Credit Line Increases
This is very odd, but according to the Chatbot on the website:
Q. When requesting a credit limit increase, is the credit inquiry a hard or soft credit inquiry?
A. Unfortunately, until we process the request, there isn't a way for us to know if a credit line increase request will be a soft or hard hit on your credit report. For this reason, we have to receive your permission to pull a copy of your credit report before we process the increase request. If you process the request online, you will see a message stating "By submitting this form, you authorize Citibank, N.A. to obtain your credit report."

To request an increase online:
In order to request an increase, you will need to go to your Credit Home page, and find Available Credit at the top of the page. Then, click on the link that says Request Increase to begin the process.

Things can be different and nice that you provided a lot of detail. What I referring to is what happens for myself and a number of other people. Let me give you an example. For the current promo of $200 credit when spending $2000 or more., my wife and a bunch of posters here received the credit on 2/17/2024. If you go back you will see a number of posts on 2/17 reporting the credit. I checked the day before and there was no credit. However, the credit showed up on 2/17 but it was backdated on SYW website to 2/7, a day after statement closing date of 2/6. This is what i am referring to as "phantom" dates.

Looking at transaction history, credit seems to apply a day after closing date, but it actually was posted 10 days later in my case.

So what I mean, while quoting your statement, "Citi has actually credited me with the statement credit 1-2 weeks PRIOR AFTER the actual posted date"

Aha! I see now. Sorry to be so dense.

So I think I just observed what you stated (and I blame Citi--haha).

First, I'll correct that my statement closing dates are "around" the 23rd of the month (sometimes the 24th, sometimes the 25th).
Example of what I *think* you're describing happened today:

1) Quicken downloaded my SYW card transactions today (I did it Saturday and M-F last week). As is typical, the weekend transactions sometimes take 1-2 days to be reflected (that whole transaction date vs. post date).
2) On 3/8/24 I made a $68 purchase (or thereabouts) at WalMart.
3) That transaction was downloaded today (but not over the weekend). It has a posting date of 3/8/24.
4) ALSO it downloaded (today, 3/11/24), a $50 statement credit that had a 2/24/24 POST date (Transaction date of today, or so I'm assuming since I can't see those on the Citi website, nor are they in Quicken, but since the item hasn't shown up the entire last week...)
5) I thought that was odd, (although SOMETIMES Quicken's integration with Intuit's servers, causes it to download previous transactions), so I double-checked and no, no 2/24/24 transaction previously.
6) I wasn't sure which statement credit promo it was referring to, although I had my suspicions, so I went onto the Website and clicked the "+" sign to expand and all it said was Statement Credit for 3/1/24 - 3/31/24. OK, the month hasn't finished yet, and why is it posting "this months" credit on 2/24/24? More about that later.
7) I was able to determine that the 3/8/24 Walmart charge was indeed my 6th charge over $60 since 3/1/24, thus, this was the statement credit for the "make 6 charges of at least $60/month and get a $50 statement credit). OK.
8) NOW I will explain the 2/24/24 posting date. That happens to be my statement OPENING date (since the previous statement closed on 2/23/24).

So I believe the above scenario describes what you were trying to say.

I also believe (I stated incorrectly that these would post on my statement CLOSING date, and that was incorrect, it turns out it's my statement OPENING date). And, unfortunately unless you have access to the LIVE website, (or you made meticulous notes), you can't really look at the statements (PDF/paper), or Quicken, to see the TRANSACTION date.

Thus, I feel it's quite possible that ALL my statement credits that posted on my Statement Opening date were not reflective of the TRANSACTION date (although I have now added a column in my spreadsheet for the transaction date and post date of the statement credits).

So, it would seem, that the statement closing date (for me) is important as the Opening Statement date is when credits will post (but not the transaction date). Although it's a bit odd that they do things this way, IMO (applying a credit with a vastly different post date vs. transaction date).

I'm assuming that the statement closing dates vary for individuals (ie, not everyone has a 22-25 closing date?). So I'm sure for some, the posting dates will "always" be the first of the month (in my case I won't say they are ALWAYS the opening date, as I have a few statement credits that have posted--meaning the actual post date--not the transaction date-- on dates other than the Opening Date, but it's not many that it happens to).

Wow. Dealing with Citi and with Sears cards requires a lot of legwork. We are all supporting each other to keep it going. Thanks for the detailed update.

you got your TYP for Feb GGR?

I am still waiting for my SYW credit for Feb GGR. I did meet the spend requirement on Feb 28. I wonder if Feb being a leap year affected their system at all.

well find out in a week if feb ggr posts the same day as Jan ggr

Hi I'm having the same problem with multiple online shops including airlines. Mastercard ID check security failed. I called CS and they don't see a charge attempt. Did you ever get a resolution?

Are most of these merchants located outside the USA?

You may find this post, and the threads linked from it, helpful to understand the issues: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/36057617-post85.html

I'm overjoyed to report my first ever successful completion of one of these offers!!! My writeup here: https://imgur.com/a/6Eiv49

TLDR, I used WM pay VGCs to trigger an online spending offer. Nice to have things work after my share of hiccups. Thanks to everyone in this community, and I'd also like to thank the Academy, my yoga instructors, my dog groomer, and of course my beautiful family who stuck with me through all these difficult times.

I asked before where to find these offers. To clarify, there are two websites, the one that is Shop Your Way and it sends emails that are useless abouot eat local (nothing ever there) complete the mission (cannot click anything, nothing there), etc... Then there is the citiretailservices.citicredit.com ?? that is the card site for the card. You have an offers tab there and of course nothing there either. I have not received any emails from the citi part of the system. Please someone explain where the offers are so that I can sign up and take advantage of them, thanks.

Good question. The offers come by email from citibank email addresses, or by snail mail for some people. Here are some email addresses that have sent me some actual offers:I know some people get offers, some people don't, some people don't get offers for a long time and then they get offers again. I'm pretty sure that there is nothing else to sign up for or change in order to improve your chances. I guess maybe there is some kind of algorithm based on your spending, but I have no idea what it could be.

You haven't had your card for very long, right ET? I think I got my first offer about 1.5 months after I got the card. Are you spending toward your $225 intro offer? I would recommend continuing to do that and hope that you get your first e-mail offer soon. Good luck!

SYW statement credit posted today, backdated to Feb 27. Same thing happened last month around the 15th, credit was backdated to Jan 29. Though weirdly while the credit for Jan that posted in Feb said Statement Credit 01/01/24 - 01/31/24, the one from today says Statement Credit 03/01/24 - 03/31/24.

So I think todays credit is for Feb GGR, but not sure. Also have a second credit posted, which I think is for the 5% back if you spend $400+ but I didnt think I had activated it in time for February.

Received offer of 200k points for $750 online spend

Anyone know of a good way to check mcc codes for certain merchants (like how they populated the first message in this thread?) I wanna try prepaying my car insurance (Nationwide), and even if I can't confirm it before, I'm willing to try a partial payment to test it out. I'm just not sure where I can confirm the code after the charge posts?

Fingers crossed for the $250 (points) for $1,000 on-line spend offer today. The family has been begging me for a PS5 and this offer will relieve the sting a little, lol.
