The most commonly posed question about the new food/beverage benefit, which is now extended through the end of 2022, is how it works for multi-night stays. Here's what we do & don't know:
  • The credit does not accumulate over the duration of your stay. For instance, if you stay for 2 nights at a $15/night property, you cannot use the benefit toward a single $30 purchase at one time.
  • Thus, the credit for a given day may only be used on that day. It expires afterward.
  • Unfortunately, Hilton has offered no clear explanation of what qualifies as a "day." (FAQ 24 purports to give an answer, but makes no sense.)
    • Some properties reportedly apply a "calendar day" rule. For a stay arriving Monday and departing Wednesday (two nights, ergo two credits), this means the credit is available only on Monday (first credit) and Tuesday (second credit), with no option for breakfast use on Wednesday.
    • Other properties don't use midnight as the cutoff, but instead allow use of a day's credit until the bar/restaurant closes, even if that occurs early the next calendar day (say, 1am). This interpretation also precludes use for breakfast on the day of departure.
      • Neither of these approaches makes logical sense, given that on a one-night stay the credit may be used either on day of arrival or day of departure, per FAQ 8.
    • A few properties reportedly use the standard checkin or checkout time as the dividing line: guest arriving Monday has until noon or 3pm Tuesday to use the first day's credit (or whatever the checkin/checkout times for that property are).

Official Hilton benefit statement (updated for 2022) with FAQ at end:

Through 2022, well be offering Gold and Diamond members a Daily Food & Beverage Credit at our luxury, full-service, lifestyle and Hilton Garden Inn hotel brands in the U.S. This credit is offered as part of the Hilton Honors MyWay benefits, in place of the prior complimentary continental breakfast.

Traveling with a friend or loved one? You and up to one additional guest registered to the same room will each receive the daily credit. The credit applies to the one guest room in which the Elite member is staying and will be provided for each night of your stay.

You can use the credit towards eligible food and beverage purchases that are charged to your roomany time of dayat designated outlets throughout the property. Refreshing beverages? Check. Appetizer or desert with dinner? Check, check. Breakfast at the restaurant? Sure. Breakfast to go? No problem.

Gold members can choose to receive the Daily Food & Beverage Credit or Bonus Points as part of their Hilton Honors MyWay benefits. Diamond members will receive both the Daily Food & Beverage Credit and 1,000 Bonus Points at all brands listed above except for Hilton Garden Inn, where Diamond members can choose between the credit or 750 Bonus Points. So far I've been able to make reservations that meet or exceed my current reservations -- similar location, better rooms/amenities, and less price. If the hotels are clean and well maintained, I may make the switch permanent.

If Hilton's F&B credit remains as-is in 2022, it will make the decision easier.
If you have access to US credit cards, no need to make a decision. You can build status with Marriott, pick up a Hilton Aspire, and just go between the two chains as needed.

I ended up doing this and it seemed to have worked. Not sure if they actually got the tips but I didnt get charged for it.

Wow, this is a wild thread. I guess we need a PhD to understand how this benefit is supposed to work verses how the hotels are implementing it. At this point, does the Hilton Page listed in the FAQs above actually correspond to what the Hilton rep here is saying. If we don't get the credit, is this the proper order:
1. Ask the checkout rep to fix it. If they refuse, ask for a manager if we are up for the escalation.
2. If the hotel doesn't fix the credit, submit a ticket via Hilton.com. Hilton HQ then forces the Hotel to give back the money.
3. If Hilton HQ can't fix it, ask help from the Hilton rep in this thread?

When people are submitting tickets, are people also asking for HH Points as well for the trouble? We are going to Hawaii in a couple months, in theory, and want to be prepared. Do people also bring a printout of the Hilton Page listed in the FAQs above.

"Do people also bring a printout of the Hilton Page listed in the FAQs above."

The idiots at the hotel I was at showed me the letter they received from corporate about the credit, and they still didn't understand it and offered me vouchers or the credit. Then the area/regional manager showed up one day and I heard him telling them there's no choice. Regardless, they still didn't give me credits everyday. the night before I left I told the clerk he needs to check my account and look at each day to see if all the credits are posted before I check out in the morning. Well, he did his job finally because when I checked out I only owed approximately $12 for tax above the credited amount. And I always get a printout before I leave.

You actually SAW the letter Hilton corporate sent to the hotels??? Please do share - paraphrasing and summarizing is fine, I and I'm sure many others would be fascinated how it has been interpreted in so many different ways.

I arrived there at after 10pm and just wanted to get to my room. I saw the corporate letter and briefly read it and the clerk took it back. It only talked about the credit NOT vouchers, so when the guy told me that diamond members can get vouchers, I was like, ok. 🤔 But knew that wasn't the case. My entire stay was a cluster, just like most people's stays documented throughout this thread. I have a three week stay at a Hilton in Dubai in a few months and very much look forward to it.

Thanks for the response, but disappointing intel. But just the fact that they mentioned vouchers which were nowhere in the letter speaks volumes..."let's just do what we want"...they must have had a bunch of vouchers sitting around from the past

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of "no breakfast on check-out day" which is a real head scratcher.

Stopped at Front Desk to check out of Crockfords and the final bill gave me one day credit instead of two. It even showed a one night reservation with breakfasts on check in and check out day. I used 2 FNC and they must have merged the 2 reservations because I didn't have to switch rooms or reactivate keys, but I guess the auditors didn't notice. FD agent gave me a corrected second night bill with one breakfast credit applied and a separate bill for the first night with a minibar charge (which I have never opened) and no mention of a breakfast. We got the wine bottle refunded and since the breakfast credit would have cancelled out whatever I ordered, everything finally looked good for check out (unless I missed out on potential HH points on that breakfast charged to the room).

Walked over to the Conrad for a one night stay, told room was ready, so didn't have to leave luggage and come back later. Returning that evening, I stopped at the FD to ask how the breakfast credit worked, since no one said anything at check in. The morning check in agent didn't mention it because my reservation didn't show diamond status. This desk agent said it was $50 and could be used that night or for breakfast at 1 of 3 venues. I didn't ask if it had to be used all at once or at multiple venues since I already had a breakfast plan. He got me my water bottles that were missed at check in and I asked if I missed out on a possible upgrade since my status wasn't listed. All he could say was that they were pretty full for this weekend. This strip view room overlooks the pool and not much of the strip.

$12 credit good towards basic items on breakfast menu. I ordered the omelette for $14. Server says “unfortunately, the omelette is not eligible for the $12 food credit.”

I asked if she meant I’d have to pay $2 or $14. She says $14 because “that’s what corporate told us”.

Edit: Front desk confirmed at checkout. Any single food and beverage item under $12 goes towards the $12. Any single item over $14 is in eligible because their computer system doesn’t allow them to do partial credit.

What a bunch of nonsense. I'd immediately file a complaint of they tried to pull that.

I believe hotels can still offer vouchers if they want to offer them. The new policy is the minimum that branded hotels must offer. I recently visited the HGI in Bangor and they still offer a free hot breakfast according to the old policy. I continue to phone hotels prior to booking to inquire of the breakfast policies and continue to find hotels that offer free breakfasts. I still agree with up thread recommendations that the policy after Jan 1 should give guests the option of credit or vouchers.

This roll-out was so abrupt and poorly executed, why should Hilton wait until Jan 1 implement a fix of offering credit or voucher?

But without retraining of the hotels the credits will continue to cause problems.
