The most commonly posed question about the new food/beverage benefit, which is now extended through the end of 2022, is how it works for multi-night stays. Here's what we do & don't know:
  • The credit does not accumulate over the duration of your stay. For instance, if you stay for 2 nights at a $15/night property, you cannot use the benefit toward a single $30 purchase at one time.
  • Thus, the credit for a given day may only be used on that day. It expires afterward.
  • Unfortunately, Hilton has offered no clear explanation of what qualifies as a "day." (FAQ 24 purports to give an answer, but makes no sense.)
    • Some properties reportedly apply a "calendar day" rule. For a stay arriving Monday and departing Wednesday (two nights, ergo two credits), this means the credit is available only on Monday (first credit) and Tuesday (second credit), with no option for breakfast use on Wednesday.
    • Other properties don't use midnight as the cutoff, but instead allow use of a day's credit until the bar/restaurant closes, even if that occurs early the next calendar day (say, 1am). This interpretation also precludes use for breakfast on the day of departure.
      • Neither of these approaches makes logical sense, given that on a one-night stay the credit may be used either on day of arrival or day of departure, per FAQ 8.
    • A few properties reportedly use the standard checkin or checkout time as the dividing line: guest arriving Monday has until noon or 3pm Tuesday to use the first day's credit (or whatever the checkin/checkout times for that property are).

Official Hilton benefit statement (updated for 2022) with FAQ at end:

You can use the credit towards eligible food and beverage purchases that are charged to your roomany time of dayat designated outlets throughout the property. Refreshing beverages? Check. Appetizer or desert with dinner? Check, check. Breakfast at the restaurant? Sure. Breakfast to go? No problem.

Gold members can choose to receive the Daily Food & Beverage Credit or Bonus Points as part of their Hilton Honors MyWay benefits. Diamond members will receive both the Daily Food & Beverage Credit and 1,000 Bonus Points at all brands listed above except for Hilton Garden Inn, where Diamond members can choose between the credit or 750 Bonus Points. Checked in at Crockfords LXR Las Vegas, was told the $50 credit was a breakfast only credit, can't be used for lunch or dinner or even hitting multiple venues for breakfast, you get to choose 1 of 4 venues to use the credit and you only get credit for one transaction, so it sounds like use it all or lose the remainder. On one hand, limiting it to breakfast is disappointing, but at least it is clearly defined.

While I would not have a problem with that, for many that takes away the "flexibility" of what this new system was supposed to be.

How every hotel can be all over the lot is really disturbing.

This policy is absolutely screwed up. With that said, however, I know some people like it. So please Hilton give us the choice between a free breakfast or a credit.

I agree completely, but it would be best to file a complaint with customer service first. Then, if any clean-up is required, I am more than happy to step in.

Best regards,

William

And for the fourth time this week, my credit has been screwed up. This morning, the front desk checked me out but did not apply the credit despite my reminding them. Fortunately, I asked for a print out and saw it. Butthey could not correct it so they refunded me $30 which irks me for two reasons, both of which are minor (such as it will take 7-10 days for the refund to hit my card) but in light of all the time I have had to spend on this over the past week (trips to the front desk every single morning and sometimes twice each day, waiting in line, fighting for the credit and giving up on it altogether one day because I just didnt have the time to go back yet again), it really bugs me. So four stays in the past week, four days of wasting my time and a PITA because I had to make time every morning to wait at the front desk. Epic fail.

Definite nonsense if they're supposed to have the same rules as the Conrad next door..

I've decided to dip my feet into the Marriott pool for the rest of 2021. I'm skeptical that the grass is greener... but now is as good a time to try as any.

I can't envision maintaining status in two chains, but we'll see how it goes. So far I've been able to make reservations that meet or exceed my current reservations -- similar location, better rooms/amenities, and less price. If the hotels are clean and well maintained, I may make the switch permanent.

If Hilton's F&B credit remains as-is in 2022, it will make the decision easier.

Long Beach Hilton yesterday…was assured the credit would be applied correctly, and of course it wasn’t. Now must waste more time to clean up this mess. This is getting really old really fast.

Overall I welcome the flexibility of the credit, though its implementation is quite clearly designed to encourage breakage.

I don't want to, and nor should I have to, audit my folio and line up to have FDAs process changes required. That is super aggravating - and I trust William you'll pass on that sentiment. Hopefully it ends up front and center in a slide for the execs in McLean.

Am I the only person who uses the Hilton app to message the hotel? For the few times I've had a concern, I message them and it gets taken care of. There's zero chance you'd catch me waiting at the front desk line each day.

It depends on which front desk employee you get. The HGI I was at for instance had employees roll by their eyes when you mention certain employees, like they even know they're worthless. Like when I had one of those idiots trying to tell me I was WRONG about the weekend hours at the restaurant/bar, and when I showed them the notice that was in every guestroom compared to reality. The woman stood there in looking like an idiot. Even the maintenance guy said they are stupid 😁. Those kind of places you have to get in their face for anything to be done correctly, and they still screw up.

As I've mentioned prior, a lot of properties do not have the ability to receive messages via the app for various reasons. That option I would still consider more of an outlier than a reliable way to contact every hotel.

Nevermind that fact that not once did I ever have to complain to front desk or message through the app to get my included breakfast benefit applied. Or audit my credit card and expense reports weeks later to make sure an included breakfast was credited retroactively.

No reason to spend any money at on-property food and beverage any more. The administrative costs to me, the customer, for this "benefit" aren't worth the benefit.
