using emergency card replacements and other benifits while traveling oversees
A couple days ago I thought my Chase CSP may have fallen out of my pocket on the streets of Spain. I called Chase immediately (a little too quickly) and had them send me a replacement card here to Spain ,which I got via UPS today. (even though I have plenty of backup cards from citi and Barclays available to me) I really just wanted to test out the process and speed of getting a replacement card. Overall, I am pleasantly surprised at how quickly Chase was able to get the replacement to me (about 2-3 days shipped from usual US card processing center. To that end , I am a little surprised that a company as big as Chase does not have emergency card replacement centers in other regions of the world and still has to ship from the US.(?)

What has your experience been getting card replacements sent or using other emergency benefits with issuers including but definitely not limited to Chase citi Barclays etc?

as it turns out my card was never lost just misplaced and we panicked a little too quickly. (it had just fallen out of my pants pocket in the hotel closet (nonetheless at that point it was already too late)

Got a text notification at around 4 PM on a Friday that my AmEx Blue Cash was used in Bogata, where I definitely was not at the time and called them. 10 AM the next day, on a Saturday, UPS delivered a new card, granted I was at home and not halfway around the world. I was still pretty impressed though.

I am very unhappy with Visa/Chase. Lost my card in Europe and reported within one hour. They sent a replacement card with the wrong number. When I called to get it fixed they told me that they are not allowed to send a replacement card if you have any other credit cards in your custody, even though the other cards: a) have foreign exchange fees; b) are not accepted in the same locations.

AmEx has been absolutely phenomenal the couple of times I've lost my Costco card overseas. Twice in Tokyo I called the night before and was told AmEx Japan would issue me a replacement from their office the next day (the one time I called in the morning they told me they'd have it ready by 3PM). The one time it happened in China I was told it would be rushed by UPS and it got to me within half a week.

In my experience, anytime they issue me a replacement card, I always get a "Chase Fraud Alert" email about 2 days before delivery notifying me which card is being shipped, to what address it's headed and a tracking number (if applicable) this experience was no exception.

I personally have not had a bad experience with Chase yet, and hopefully never will.
Just as there are many misconceptions about Chase , I bet there are an equal number with AMEX.
Personally I find amex customer service and other related services to be "indifferent" I read all these stories about how amex is the best issuer in the industry. Blah blah
I personally have yet to experience a mind blowing, game changing positive experience with them. As a family we have all sorts of amex cards, (all the way up to Platinum) but my experience has largely been the same "indifference" all across the board
An experience that really stands out as an example of this was in March when I was billed for the incorrect number of guests at a priority pass lounge in PTY
There are four of us that travel 3 adults and 1 child
Long story short
I noticed I was over charged by like $58 I called amex and told them I had been over charged because all of the adults have their own PP cards and should have gotten in free, and if a guest fee was to have been applied it should only be $25 (if the lounge charges for small children). Anyway, in the end amex could not figure it out and just closed the case. It was not until I called PP directly and they admitted that they thought there were 6 of us in the lounge (when there were only 4) then and only then did I get somewhere when it came to my rightful refund.
I will admit that amex does certain things well such as
Purchase protection
Extended warranty protection and others
But in the grand scheme of things unfortunately in my experience amex has never been all its been made out to be.

1.VISA is the network not the card issuer, they have nothing to do with card replacements

How did you discover the discrepancy? So, the card number on your online account and the number on the actual card was different? I am a little confused.
Secondly, I have no reason to doubt what you say about visa's responsibility for card replacements, but still why then was my card sent from the usual Chase address and the shipper ID in UPS was"Chase Card services" . This would seem like a complete contradiction if visa had more to do with it than Chase. Just curious?
Actually, although the lines between VISA and Chase get blurred (which I expect to get cleared up), the card replacement benefit is a VISA guarantee. No, they didn't send me any email. And the problem with the replacement card is that instead of sending it with my new number, they created one for a number which THEY had cancelled 8 months ago when they did the conversion to new cards (in other words, they were all for the "same" account, but they printed a card for the number *before* the one that was lost, instead of the number for the account *after* the card was lost.)

I discovered the discrepancy when the card was declined, twice. So I called and talked to an agent who said that she had fixed it. Then it was declined a third time (tired of being embarrassed). So I called again, got transferred by the first person to VISA Global Assist, who informed me that: a) they had printed the card for an invalid number, sorry; b) they don't give emergency cards to people who have other cards or ATM cards.
I have some strong feelings, but since I plan to sue them, I will limit my comments here.

I have always gotten a new number whenever I had my card replaced...
For me: Amex will usually try to next day ship it. Chase has never done that though, usually gives me the 3-5 days. I also called in once and said I lost it, and they told me it was being held at a bar... wish they would've called me and told me that instead of me calling them! But yes, the bar indeed had it.

Chase would not send me the replacement CSP when mine was stolen in Rome.
Overall the experience with Chase is rather disappointing.
First, the Italian pay phone system operators said the Chase number (collect call) BLOCKED collect calls. Since the AU card was not lost, I used the AU card to pay for the call, about $47 charge later I saw online.
Then when we got to the hotel, we tried to call from the hotel. Again, the collect call number was blocked to take collect call! Hilton FCO ended up using the front desk's line to call for me.
When I initially called to report the stolen card, Chase was NOT able to stop the card because the system was in a weekend update mode. The rep who took the call said she would email the security dept which in turn would put a stop on the card when the system was up and running.
It never happened. When I called back on Monday to inquire the situation I was told the card was NEVER blocked. Though the rep did find an email from the previous rep. But nothing has ever been done. And, get this, this rep said since the AU card was not lost, he suggested Not to block the card but had the merchant called for approval on each transaction.
I insisted the card needed to be canceled promptly and a replacement card be sent to the hotel address which we would return after 10 days (on a cruise). The rep refused. No big deal. We have other cards and I really dont want to keep calling Chase on this crap. I asked him to put a note to send the card to our home address at proper time so the card would be waiting when we returned home.
It never happened. When we returned home, there was no card in mail pile. Wait a week, still no card. SMed Chase, was told replacement card was NEVER ordered...
Long story short, compared to AMEX, Chase is worthless in situation like this.
CSP does not worth its $95 fee in our opinion, especially now Chase has pulled out from Verified by Visa program. So now each time if you try to buy a train ticket online from virtually each major European national train system, SNCF, Trenitalia, Renfe, and may be DB, you would need to call and they would give the card a 24 hours "pass" or whatever it is, so your transaction would go thru. Otherwise, you would have to go thru 3rd party sites to buy and pay extra (the 3rd parties commission).
