Lost Travel Certificate Number/PIN; Options?

A few months ago I canceled a flight and united issued a travel certificate. I totally forgot about the certificate. Where can I find the information and details on how to redeem these certificates?

That website says to enter information into the "offer code" area. I dont have an offer code, or if I do I can not find it.

Try your confirmation number or the ETC #.

Did they send you an electronic certificate? If so, it will have a number. Try in-putting it.

or -

UA has stored mine before under the confirmation code number. So you could check this number, too.

If none of the numbers you have bring up anything online, call in to ask CS to find your record. (This could take a while, so have a book or something on hand.)

Do you have the 7-character PIN?

If so, that's all you need.

After selecting your flights, above where you enter your credit card, there's a section for travel certificate. You pick the year it was issued (2012 or 2013) and then enter the PIN and apply it.

Back in the day there was never an issue calling and getting the e-cert number. Is that no longer possible?

It is. It can be found. But like with most things CO, it's not easy.

I usually document the PIN and shred the printout. In one, I typoed it, and it didn't work. They were searching for a bit and not finding it, and then I remembered what trip I was VDBed on, gave them the record, and voila, they had it.

Unfortunately it's not as easy as DL's which are against SkyMiles number. That would make finding them a whole lot easier.

Call UA reservations as they may be able to locate it for you under your Mileage Plus number.

They're not under MP number.

Name comes off the affected record, and address is free-form text.

They don't store the MP number in the ETC database, so the look up can be lengthy.

I put the relevant numbers in the notes section of my phonebook entry. As long as your phone is password protected, that should be a safe place.

Except in my case, which was a typo.

I suppose I could take photos of the printouts, but that could get unwieldy.

Glad you asked this, I have the exact same situation with a $150 refund From a voluntary schedule change last fall. The agent gave me the certificate number over the phone, I wrote it down somewhere, and I haven't seen it since. Sounds like the best bet is to start with the ticket number from the changed itinerary and try the website first, then the phone if necessary?

Somewhat tangential question, if I'm booking an itinerary for 3 pax and would like to apply both this cert and a 10% off cert from an IROPs situation can I make the reservation under a single PNR, of doe it have to be split to apply both certificates?

Yes. Don't give up. Have entertainment at hand during the waits.

I submitted a refund request online and within 48 hours got notice that the refund will be processed.

Just FYI if anyone else is in the same situation
