I can't wait for the new FS Venice.
When I was there a couple of weeks ago, one nice lady
working in one great shop told us about it.
Apparently FS bought a couple of great old hotels and are now
renovating them. Should open next year, but who knows really...

theyve added club level at lebua BKK

interview with CEO http://www.elitetraveler.com/leaders...&n=deepak-ohri
we are buying chateaus and converting them into top-of-the-line exclusive hotels. That will be by invitation only—you may be able to pay the money, but then you have to be invited to stay there as a guest
their current villa - http://www.lebua.com/okareka/

another newer company with a safari camp and villas - http://www.molori.com

during winter, virgin limited edition's lodge is only bookable by room last minute. necker island is only bookable by room a few weeks a year. they have a catamaran now (with submarine ) and a 2nd island coming.

I wonder will the new Lebua hotels be better than the original?
We visited the Lebua for drinks last year in Bangkok and left pretty quickly after. It was very busy with people coming and going all the time to take pictures (although staff did regularly turn people away). Not much of an atmosphere but nice views,we were glad we weren't staying there.

http://www.elitetraveler.com/leaders...n=liam-lambert interview with president of oberoi >
...We are opening next year in Dubai, in Abu Dhabi we have two hotels opening, we have an opening in Oman, we are opening in Marrakech. In the future we have to look around the world to see what will unfold.

...In every [Indian] city we are in, one person is employed who does nothing but liaise with the government and deal with regulations...

...Mumbai...will reopen in April. We will have three main restaurants, one named Fenix. Ziya, the Indian restaurant in consultation with Vineet Bhatia, who has 2 Michelin stars, in London and Geneva, but trained with Oberoi. So it’s a big deal, like the prodigal son coming home. Lastly there’s Vetro, the Italian restaurant. We reduced the room inventory from 327 to 287 and we created 39 new Oberoi Rooms that are like suites in size but in a large room open style. There will also be two Presidential Suites, up from one, and 20 amazing corner suites. A few months after that we open a hotel in Gurgaon which is the new business district in Delhi, sort of like Canary Wharf in London, with all new construction, Japanese and Indian restaurants. Some of the suites have their own lap pool...

Director General of the “Metropol” - Oleg Korol said that the six-star hotel will be built on the island. There will be 120 rooms (60 suits) in the central part of the hotel and 60 bungalows along the inlet.

This is an integrated resort and in accordance with the world’s best practice it will belong to the major owner while those who buy villas will be able to rent them by the means of hotel operators.

Fifteen minutes by tender from Porto Montenegro is Svete Marko island, a former Club Med that fell into disuse in the Eighties. It’s having a €400 million facelift to become a Banyan Tree resort. “There is no other island in the Mediterranean that is an entire resort,” says Cvjetkovic. Villas and town houses on the island will cost from 310,000 to 5.3 million and there will be a marina, yacht club, shops and restaurants.

I guess you are talking about the former CIGA, then Starwood properties on the Lido.

Excelsior is a brick moresque building which fits with the venetian heritage.
I have been to the beach club a couple of times. The daily fee to rent a beach tent for the day is scary beyond imagination but the fin-de-sicle atmosphere is priceless. The hotel has been (and still is) the playground of directors/actors/starlets during the Venice Film Festival.
I have not ventured much inside the hotel, so I do not have a real opinion. It may look a little ran down but it's a place with a huge charisma which, in my opinion is not fully optimized, and if FS actually works as good as they did with the Florence property then this is going to be a masterpiece.

Also the Des Bains has a very big potential and is a slice of history. BTW, it is the set of Visconti's "Morte a Venezia". Ok, actually not very appealing to relaunch a hotel.....

I have stayed at both properties - Des Bains and The Excelsior. They have fabulous locations and I can see why FS are turning Des Bains into residences as the hotel has beautiful surrounding gardens, so much more residential than Excelsior. Both have beaches, but the best is at Excelsior, and yes, the beach cabanas used to cost a fortune when Ciga ran it, and I expect they will under FS, too!
