The airfield should preferrably be able to handle heavy jets such as G550 or Global Express.
Have you thought about Australia? For example, for Bedara (which has less than 20 rooms and suites IIRC and is almost a private small island) on the Great Barrier Reef, there's private launch service to/from the next island (Dunk Island?), which has an airport with a few scheduled jets so that it can handle fairly large aircraft, even though it's not exactly a private airport. Hayman is larger and much different in style (personally, I wouldn't call it luxury) and also has its airport with some scheduled service. There are a lot of private airstrips in the outback, so you might want to think about a luxury ranch. However, Aussie style is generally very different from Aman so these might not be suitable.

The Raffles property in the Carribbean can arrange private plane service to its island from the nearest commercial airport, so it has an airstrip and no commercial/scheduled service. I'm no sure if it can handle the larger planes.

dunk island airport is ~2600ft.

http://www.airports-worldwide.com/au...d_airport.html 5800ft (qualia - 10 min from airport)
As the largest inhabited island in the Whitsundays, Hamilton Island is the only island with an airport catering for direct commercial and charter flights.
raffles canouan is indeed good at 5900ft. i posted it and a 5700ft.

Scheduled flights are available on specific days of the week from San Juan, Puerto Rico or from Barbados on either American Eagle (www.aa.com), Liat (www.liat.com) or Grenadines Airways.

Lanai with its two Four Seasons with very different experiences, one high in the middle of a pine forest and the other a more typical beach resort. Two nice golf courses as well. They also have horseback riding and some great trails for off road jeeps where you can basically find your own private beach.

I just love travelling to and staying in south east asia with a penchant for Thailand and Indonesia. I have often woken up from a long haul flight from europe to check my world map to see which country I am flying over and there it is...Myanmar.
I have peaked out the window many times but only once or twice have I had a nice clear view of some part of the country.
I have chosen not to travel there as I have concerns well documented.
I hope to go there some day (a few aman lodges perhaps?), in the meantime I came across this hotel which looks interesting and the type of place I would ask about here on the luxury forum, if i was going to Myanmar:

Thanks for this paul2 - malikha lodge looks like a GHM in some ways - I wonder if it was intended to be one at some stage. I, too, have concerns about this country, but then, I have concerns about quite a few others, too!
