SAS 'fleet of long-haul was from June have been extended with an additional Airbus A340 aircraft. It comes first in the autumn. Therefore, SAS has leased a Boeing 767 aircraft flying for the first time on Friday.
BY ANDREAS HOOK
Last summer, SAS had a lot of trouble with its long-haul aircraft, which ran into one problem after another. This meant many delays and cancellations in the middle of high season. And it would eventually force the company to hire expensive additional capacity in the form of a Boeing 777 machine from Euro Atlantic into.
.
To avoid getting into the same situation this year, SAS earlier this year an agreement to lease an Airbus A340 aircraft in a multi-year deal. The aircraft has a history of South America LAN, but actually owned by Air Canada. SAS Agreement is signed with Airbus to buy aircraft from Air Canada.
.
The three parties disagree on the terms of the SAS contract and the transfer of the aircraft. This means that they can not comply with the contract for supply time to SAS. Originally it was intended that SAS should have received the plane around 1 June this year. But now expected the plane first to arrive in Copenhagen at the end of July. The aircraft is now being painted in SAS colors. But ahead of you is also working on a number of technical factors and the layout of the cabin in SAS colors before the plane can be put into operation. Therefore expect SAS now that the machine can only be put into operation in October this year.
.
First flight Friday
This leaves you again without reserve plane for flight to busy summer. Therefore, SAS has chosen to indleje a Boeing 767-300ER aircraft from American Omni Air on a "wet lease" arrangement, where Omni Air only put out aircraft and crew and pay for maintenance and insurance of the aircraft. Fuel, landing fees, handling charges, catering and similar paid next to the SAS.
.
The aircraft normally have 278 seats in a clean economy class configuration. But the SAS framework will be equipped with 24 business class seats and 222 seats on SAS 'new Go-class. The new Plus class is thus no room for, and the plane will have far fewer business class seats than found in SAS's own aircraft. In turn, the aircraft equipped with large brown leather seats and Go class is only seven seats across in a 2-3-2 lineup against SAS 'normal 2-4-2 lineup.
.
The first flight carried out on Friday from Copenhagen to New York as the SK901 and the plane will forward to 17 Aug. fly onto the route as SK901/902 every Thursday and Friday. The rest of the week it will be stand-by at Copenhagen Airport to be placed primarily on the shorter long-haul routes to the U.S. east coast, where one of SAS 'own 11 Airbus long-haul aircraft have problems.
.
Weekend Cancellations
SAS could now, however good use of spare aircraft. Thus meant a leak in a fuel line on one of SAS 'Airbus A340 aircraft in San Francisco that the weekend had to cancel two return flights between Copenhagen and San Francisco. SK936 from San Francisco were canceled Saturday and Sunday, while SK935 from Copenhagen was canceled Sunday and Monday.
.
SAS announced Monday CHECK-IN.dk that technicians and spare parts had arrived in San Francisco, and that he was to have the plane ready for the flight to Copenhagen on Monday evening local time.

What does this mean:
"Passengers holding reservations on SK wet leased operated flights, issued on SK/117 documents, may involuntary rebook to other SK operated flights and dates within ticket validity."
".. may involuntary rebook..."
does not really make sense does it...
Is this something that SAS does - or can this be requested by the pax ?

Ahh I remember the UA wetleased 767 on CPH-IAD from years ago...
The article mentions the new A340 is owned by AC and coming from Chile. Will it then be reconfigured with SK's standard business class seats for this type of model, or do they keep the existing business class seats already in there from the previous carrier?
If they put in SK business class seats, will these be newly manufactured, or maybe pulled from some older aircraft that was taken out of service?
Last time I flew SK in C, the seats were really showing sign of wear, so that's why I ask.

I doubt they will buy new seats, these things cost about 150 k for a pair. Usually airlines have sufficient spares, my assumption is that the reduction of the C cabin by a few rows (only the 343 have the second cabin) in the beginning freed a few more spares.

Dont remember where I read it, but SAS will keep the original LAN Chile cabin seats, so fully flat seats in business in a 2-3-2 layout and no economy extra cabin. The aircraft is already undergoing repaint and will enter service late September, the delay is due to some small disagreement regarding the terms of the lees between Air Canada, who owns the aircraft, and SAS.

Flew the Omni on SK902 yesterday arriving CPH today. Business class is more like US "First class" with rather narrow seats that don't recline much. All manual, no entertainment system. Photo here:
