This wiki-post is to keep an overview over the equipment used and services offered by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) across their complete network, both short-haul (Europe) and long-haul (Intercontinental), including the different regular and temporary wet-lease operators which fly for SAS.
The goal of this wiki is to give you a point of information on what you can expect on your flight and which operators, routes or equipment to keep an eye out for, which airplanes and operators may perhaps be nicer or bettern than others and which specific aircraft, operators or routes to potentially avoid. The idea is to prevent any surprises when stepping on board and prepare you for your flight, so you can approach it with appropriate expectations.

The whole wiki is a work in progress! Feel free to contribute!

Cabin Classes and Seat Maps

On short haul routes, which includes all flights within Europe, SAS offers two distinct travel classes: SAS Go and SAS Plus.
All short haul planes are configured with all Economy seating. SAS Plus is located at the front of the plane and is a mix of european Business Class and Premium Economy, as it includes a free snacks and drinks, lounge access, free wifi and more. SAS Go on the other hand is the standard Economy cabin which fills the rest of the planes.

Up to date seat maps for all SK aircraft can be found here:

Wifi

Wifi is available on all A320 family aircraft (with a few exceptions). Wifi is not available on CRJ-900s and ATR72-600, as well as any wet leased aircraft.

Service

Service on SAS is described as consistently inconsistent with reports from mediocre to outright fabulous crews.
UK based SAS Connect crews appear have the best standing, while wet-lease crews are hit or miss, due to the unfamiliarity with the SAS onboard service and process.

I guess they are very much aiming to partner with Delta and The Alliance of Unwanted Airlines from June. Interesting.

I need to speed up my qualifying points in March, April, and May to be done with EBG before.....

I can only assume Danish Airlines is booting up this route from CPH and continues to disappoint their ARN/OSL based crowd?

Can only hope DL does the ARN route.

Sigh. So the move to ScrapTeam is in progress… Off to look for a new Star Alliance programme then, as my lifetime EBG will be useless…

Press release now out: https://www.sasgroup.net/newsroom/pr...clude-atlanta/

SAS EXPANDS ITS SUMMER PROGRAM TO INCLUDE ATLANTA

January 16, 2024 11:00As part of SAS' summer program 2024, a ninth destination will be added to the North American network. On June 17[th ]SAS will start connecting customers with daily nonstop service to Atlanta from Copenhagen.

SAS is not only introducing a new destination but also increasing frequencies to the US this summer. The Copenhagen-New York (JFK) route will have up to two daily flights, complementing the existing daily flights to New York-Newark Airport from Stockholm, Oslo, and Copenhagen. Copenhagen to Boston flights will operate daily, up from six times a week during summertime. In addition, a fourth weekly flight will be added from Copenhagen to Toronto.

With almost 94 million passengers passing through in 2022, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world’s busiest and most efficient airport. Cargo transportation is expected to play an important role for this route, partly because of its proximity to the Port of Savannah, the largest and fastest-growing container terminal in America.

“Through an agreement with Delta Air Lines, passengers can continue their journey on other Delta-served destinations out of Atlanta. This development means an expanded offering for SAS passengers, who can look forward to reaching several new and exciting destinations across the Southern USA, Caribbean, and Latin America, all conveniently accessible from Atlanta,” says SAS President & CEO, Anko van der Werff.
The schedule is mangled on the press release, but should read:

Summer:
SK929 CPH 13:10 ATL 17:10
SK930 ATL 19:00 CPH 10:20 (+1)

Winter:
SK929 CPH 13:00 ATL 17:00 (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun)
SK930 ATL 19:10 CPH 10:20 (+1)

Come on Guys! Partnership with Delta is probably the only positive of the alliance change.

Getting good connectivity with Delta from Atlanta, JFK, and Boston, and away from United is huge upgrade, and it looks like SAS will maintain all the existing point-to-point services in North America. Unless you’re going to non-Toronto Canada this is a win for Europe to North America travelers.

Mainly doing regional travel and long haul out of Asia is going to be tough on Sky Team though. Connectivity is fantastic today with Singapore, Thai, EVA, ANA, Asiana, Turkish, and Air China. Pretty much any regional city and long-haul destination in Europe and the US is served directly or with 1 stop. Sky Team is horrible for travel between Europe and Asia with just Korean Air, China Airlines (Taiwan), and Vietnam + some Chinese members.

The switch really stings after committing several years toward EB Lifetime Gold - it’s gonna be harder to finish the 10 years, and the value of EB Gold is also much less unless Sky Team grows, or SAS goes back to Star Alliance. Let’s hope magically SAS changes back to *A or even One World soon - I doubt that 2-3 good partners will magically join Sky Team

PS: happy to finally be a contributing member after many years of reading

Why would the proximity of a sea port be of any importance? EWR is also opposite the NJ ports, which have nothing to do with airfreight.

I wouldn’t read too much into that logic. Just an empty corporate justification for the decision that ended up making it all the way from network planner to PR team to press release.

It doesn’t make any sense that anything traveling by sea to the US East Coast needs air freight to Europe - more likely, there are some benefits to freight forwarding companies located at ATL too. The relatively new Maersk Air Cargo just announced a large warehouse at ATL in June 2023.

Isn't China Eastern the only Chinese Airline in ST? China Southern left a while back.

I was thinking whether SK will be flying to ATL since DL has ATL as their hub. DL had flown CPH-ATL many years ago.

At least AC is operating between CPH to NA - I don't know if UA will be starting routes from CPH too.

There is also Xiamen Airlines which is owned by China Southern. No idea why they are still in SkyTeam.

I would think that the next US city added will be nonstop to MSP, another SkyTeam hub.

Good westward and Midwestern connections from there and a big culturally Nordic/Scandinavian population in Minnesota. IIRC, some of the airport gift shops there sell Danish/Swedish merchandise. Plus, major regional businesses hub.

It appears that ARN-ORD was cut in favour of CPH-ATL. This only leaves ARN-EWR and the occasional ARN-MIA flight from ARN...

The whole announcement sounds as if it was enhanced by some not to be named language model. I also like the claim that ATL is the busiest and most efficient airport in NA.
Citation needed.

Welcome to FlyerTalk and the SAS | EuroBonus forums SINflyer! Glad to have you onboard.

I'm in a similar situation as you are, although I don't quite share your joy of having Delta as a connecting partner. I especially dread the (lack of) international lounges, such as Polaris or the upcoming arguments with the lounge dragons about entry on a domestic connection itinerary. :P

I too do share your hope of SAS magically switching back to *A or perhaps even OW, before being integrated into AF-KLM. Who knows what the future holds?
