This wiki-post is to keep an overview over the equipment used and services offered by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) across their complete network, both short-haul (Europe) and long-haul (Intercontinental), including the different regular and temporary wet-lease operators which fly for SAS.
The goal of this wiki is to give you a point of information on what you can expect on your flight and which operators, routes or equipment to keep an eye out for, which airplanes and operators may perhaps be nicer or bettern than others and which specific aircraft, operators or routes to potentially avoid. The idea is to prevent any surprises when stepping on board and prepare you for your flight, so you can approach it with appropriate expectations.

The whole wiki is a work in progress! Feel free to contribute!

Cabin Classes and Seat Maps

On short haul routes, which includes all flights within Europe, SAS offers two distinct travel classes: SAS Go and SAS Plus.
All short haul planes are configured with all Economy seating. SAS Plus is located at the front of the plane and is a mix of european Business Class and Premium Economy, as it includes a free snacks and drinks, lounge access, free wifi and more. SAS Go on the other hand is the standard Economy cabin which fills the rest of the planes.

Up to date seat maps for all SK aircraft can be found here:

A321: missing

XFly CRJ-900: https://www.aerolopa.com/sk-cr9-2
XFly ATR72-600: https://www.aerolopa.com/sk-atr

Wifi

Wifi is available on all A320 family aircraft (with a few exceptions). Wifi is not available on CRJ-900s and ATR72-600, as well as any wet leased aircraft.

Service

Service on SAS is described as consistently inconsistent with reports from mediocre to outright fabulous crews.
UK based SAS Connect crews appear have the best standing, while wet-lease crews are hit or miss, due to the unfamiliarity with the SAS onboard service and process.

This is followed by SAS Plus which is configured in a 2-3-2 layout for the A330, in a 2-4-2 layout for the A350 and in a 2-2 layout for the A321neoLR. SAS Go is has a 2-4-2 layout for the A330, a 3-3-3 layout for the A350 and a 3-3 layout for the A321neoLR.

For information on the different service levels, please check the SAS website: https://www.flysas.com/us-en/travel-...ravel-classes/

Up to date seat maps for all SK longhaul aircraft can be found here:

A321neoLR: https://www.aerolopa.com/sk-32q
A330-300: https://www.aerolopa.com/sk-333
A350-900: https://www.aerolopa.com/sk-359

Wifi

Wifi is available on all SK long-haul aircraft, except the new A330-343E SE-REH.

As all long haul flights are operated by SAS equipment and SAS crews the service should be rather consistent, however, the quality may vary depending on the crew.

With the recent discussions caused by the several wet leases and the frequent equipment changes on the different routes this summer I thought this might warrant its own dedicated thread.

The idea is to have keep the above wiki updated with the most important fleet and equipment information, such as potential wet-leases, specific aircraft to watch out for or recent changes in equipment for both short and long haul routes.

Sorry for perhaps stating the obvious, but searching for one-way flights CPH - BOS ON Google flights, filtering on direct flights, and clicking on the date to get month view gives you the schedule.

No CPH-HEL in the summer

I noticed all direct flights between Copenhagen and Helsinki are removed June 30th to Aug 12th now in the summer. This was really surprising to me as I would have thought that this was one of their trunk routes. But Finnair is competing heavily on the route and SK has been thinner there for several years now.

To add to this ARN-HEL sees only two daily flights, one in the morning and one in the evening.

Living in HEL this is a disappointment for me but I guess SAS knows better than I do where to find profit :-)

What they need to fix though is that many tickets from Helsinki to Europe do only allow 1 transfer. That means it is literally impossible to book a ticket to Iceland for example and for many destinations you are in practice limited to the flights from Stockholm.

They have always reduced the Nordic Capital routes heavily during the summer time, but this is taking it to a new level. But admittedly, I have been on almost empty CRJ900s between Copenhagen and Stockholm on what was supposed to be the prime time departures, but July and August just don't see many business travellers.

I hope they know what they are doing from a revenue perspective, and maybe in line with the lounge being removed in Helsinki, the importance the routes are not what it used to be? I can't say that it seems smart to remove the flights completely, if they hope to keep the passenger base for when summer is over.

An uncited post on Airliners.net states that the four remaining A321-232 (retrospectively named the "A321ceo") will be leaving the fleet by the end of June. I believe some or all are going for P2F conversion. The last flight looks like SK586 30/6.

They are OY-KBK (sn 1587), OY-KBB (sn 1642) OY-KBE (sn 1798) and LN-RKI (sn 1817).

Today there is SAS 9239 operating Oslo-Keflavik-Bangor, ME.
Aircraft OY-KBB.
What is the reason for this flight?

That aircraft is leaving the fleet and will most probably be converted to freighter. The three remaning of the old A321s are rumored to follow during the summer.

To my knowledge, SE-REH "famously" doesn't have wifi after four years of operation.

It seems that SE-REH is doing continuous CPH-EWR runs atm and yes, as one of the newer A330-343Es, it hadn't had wifi installed. Afaik it is the only SK long haul plane without wifi.

Sucks but it's an overnight flight. Your remaining options are sleep and/or watch IFE.

That is not quite correct. All A330s of SK, except SE-REH, have wifi, even if it only works extremely unreliably and slow.

This is apparently the reason for the lack of wifi as SAS was unhappy with the performance of the wifi (Panasonic I believe) on the older A330s and was looking for a better option. Instead of installing the old system on the newly delivered A330-343E SE-REH they chose to wait and then install a new system. But so far this has not happened. Covid and a certain lack of funds might have something to do with this.
