That seems to be the mostly the case when I choose to depart in May/June. When I click to depart in mid-July to mid-Aug, it seems like the are price is slightly higher. It's usually charging 2500 HKD/NOK but in the summer it's charging 1000 HKD/NOK more and the dates are limited. Even USA routes are also offered higher. I've a look on EWR/BOS, also around 1000 HKD/NOK higher I hope they can open up some availability soon when it comes to summer.

Are student tickets available in Business Class or SAS Plus? (I know I'm kinda counterdicting the kind of broke statement)
You can buy a separate youth ticket from ZRH to CPH/ARN/OSL. That will cost you 100-200 r/t.

You can upgrade youth tickets to Plus with the regular Plusgrade system. Always comes up as an option in my experience.

Yes, thanks a lot With prices like that I might actually be able to get some of my study friends to join me.

While it is true that Im in the very fortunate situation of not having to count every penny, this doesnt come from me receiving a 10k check for not smoking until I was 20 (I never smoked) or receive a Land Rover for not drinking alcohol (I hardly ever drink alcohol, only on very special occasions even today) or get a flat for getting the third best grade in class. (All of the above are true stories).
Due to my obligation in Switzerland of doing Military Service I did earn a cent or two since I continued to rank up until Sergeant Major (and the fact I University is practically free in Switzerland). So all the money I spend for fancy Business Class Flights I did actually earn myself.
Now the reason I did buy some crazy expensive Business Class fare: The dates were fixed and all booking classes except C, D or J were booked out. So now Im looking to try and change the flights in such a way that I will receive the most miles

G
I think you may have a wrong image of me and my relationship with my parents.
Sadly Im not in such a position (and tbh it kinda seems rude) and as mentioned above while I do have the money to spend, Im not looking for a way to lose it all in an unnecessary fast way, so if there is a chance to save a few hundred bucks I will certainly do so.
Maybe you would be willing to fund my Lifetime Eurobonus Gold run?

Yes. And same applies also to upgrades at check-in / gate.

I personally got my first EBG and EBD with cheap SK flights in the back. It was nice to see something but I really don't want this anymore. For me that one year was enough. No need to do this for 10 years.

Thanks, However: When trying to search a youth flight from ZRH to SFO there is a slight problem: I can't type in San Francisco. I have tried SFo, San Francisco etc. but it just does not find it (when trying to book a normal flight I find SFO immediatly).

The Shanghai Flights work: btw: 500 bucks return seems acceptable. But I think I've seen lower normal fares once too

It seems in order to get to the dirt cheap youth fare, one has to base the first point of travel in Scandinavia???? I am unable to look for ZRH/SFO or ZRH/PVG for youth fare either

Worry not! Nick to the rescue!

Well, I can't even search for SFO under the youth fare search tab (the airport cant be found, neither for LAX) and for NRT and BOS there are no dates available, but for PVG, EWR, HKG I am able to search for youth fares: Here some examples:

ZRH-ORD

How about an evening trip to Chicago? Taking the same aircraft back offers you the possibility for many jokes.

ZRH-HKG:

Nice trip to HKG airport! I heard taking the same aircraft that took you there right back again is especially exciting.

ZRH-PVG:

Now one might argue that a 00:10 to 07:20 layover is insane. Yes, but as this is a youth ticket anyway I expect the U26 year olds are certainly fit enough to do that!

Now you might have noticed that my trips are extremly short: Yes, but the longer your trip is the easier it will be to combine the flights. This is just to show that there is no real minimum stay requirement. Did I overdo subtle hit to that? Yes, certainly.
Regarding the prices: They are at all dates the same +-30-50 bucks. So price wise it doesnt get any higher (or that much lower)

I did always check if booking the ZRH-Scandinavia and the long haul flgiht spereatly was cheaper but that was never the case so far.

Hope that helps

Due to SAS's crappy website, we needed to open up another bottle before we could finally book the tickets. Despite the pain, we are quite happy now but SAS really tries hard to not sell tickets.
Sorry to revive a dead thread, but I wanted to report back on the experience. After all the effort to get the tickets booked, the kids enjoyed a fantastic 4 weeks in the US...and we enjoyed our 4 weeks without kids:-) To top things off, the kids received a double op-up (Go-->Business) on yesterday's ORD-CPH flight as A3 Gold! I had forgotten how much a pain it was to book the tickets online, but will start looking into next year's trip. Hopefully SAS IT has improved the booking process.

Wait wait a minute... Are you suggesting that FOUR passengers in Go (youth go to be axeact) have ALL been op-upped to not only SAS Plus, but to BUSINESS?! This is crazy! They must have really hit Jackpot there... (Were they all on the same ticket or on seperate ones?) And now I'm getting my hopes up for me to catch one of those op ups once when flying on a youth ticket XD

Sorry, it was only 2 youths...but yes, both were upgraded from Go to Business. The staff was a bit confused when two 13 year olds came up when paged and asked twice who they were travelling with (and surprised to find out they were alone). The kids have lived their DYKWIA moment, but sadly without champagne

We have managed op-ups for the entire family several times before, but only a single cabin. SAS has been quite good in recent years, so hopefully your luck will change.

I can imagine it now! Sounds like a hilarious situation! (Any DYKWIA asking the agent why two 13yo get opupped but not them by any chance?)

This reminds me, when I was a little older than 13, maybe 16?, I organized my parents and my flight to AYT from ZRH. This route is flown with by Edelweiss on a codeshare with Swiss (I flew that route 30+ times) and Edelweiss just having taken over one of Swiss long haul aircraft would use that plane for short haul flights like ZRH-AYT first while still having the old three class Swiss cabin. We usually fly C on that route so I booked us a great return fare for 580 bucks p.P in C on a longhaul plane. Pretty cool already, but I gambled that somehow it should be possible for us to get some of the 8 F seats that surely would be categorized as C on that route (Edelweiss does not sell any F). And so it was, upon check-in I managed to change our seats to 1A, 1G and 1K (1D remaining free). The flight being overbooked around 30 Y pax were op-upped into C and 4 just behind us into the F seats. the father was so excited (he seemed to have never even flown J yet in F before). Seeing his joy really made my day.
On the return I obviously expected the same seats, but oh dear, online check-in was not available and at the airport the 8 seats were already occupied. I was so mad I nearly went full DYKWIA on the agent, but then I realized that I was only 16yo, entitled, without actually having any status at all. (at that time *G were like Gods for me). He even showed me the screen of the seat map. Quite dissapointed I settled with 12A. (My blood was boiling due to frustration).
On the AC we boarded through the front door and had to walk through the F cabin and 6 put of the 8 F seats were occupied by ££#*%£~• 7 year olds.
Didn‘t exactly help me deal with my frustration very well. This called for several glasses of Chanpagne to deal with.

Up to this day I still wake up shaking and soaked having nightmares of 7yo stealing my F and J seats... The horror... the horror...

I now do realize that I have went extremely OT. Sorry bout that.

I think you are very much a FTer at heart, nothing wrong with that! As always, book what you are willing to accept and try to game the rest (bumps, op-ups, paid upgrades, etc.). Sometimes it works, and you love it. When it doesn't, just keep searching for the next one. As it happens, these upgrades were essentially based on old SAS "kids fly free" deal that earned both our kids A3 Gold. If you were considering youth tickets to get Life Time Gold, you need to check my mileage run for kids thread. They have maintained *G since then and it makes op-ups much more common.

There is one other surefire way to get an op-up for us, which involves meeting Oliver2002 before/during a trip. I think we are batting 100% on op-ups when crossing his path. Paging Oliver2002, were you in Chicago this week?

I haven‘t had the pleasure yet.
But I usually post all of my travel plans in the m&m lounge meetup thread and my https://ba97.com/report.asp?handle=nick%20art page.
Or if either of you happen to transit through ZRH I‘d definetly be up for a drink!

Good for you! We were able to dump ours to my in-laws for a week (it wasn't easy) - maybe it's more difficult with 3 kids (10-12) than 2x 13 years old. I guess the double OPUP will help your kids to be more confident to fly on their own. I'm going to tell mine tomorrow to see their reaction - they are all *G as well.

My friend and her daughter also got double OPUP with SAS from CPH to PVG, they are just regular members without status and bought Go (don't think it's the most expensive one but probably not the dirt cheap Y).

I'm trying to see if I can get a better deal with booking 2 youth tickets on sas.se and then buy mine and the youngest one through OTA for CPH-HKG but it doesn't seem that there's any youth tickets available for week 8 holiday next year.
