Good eats SFO?
We have a nearly 4 hour layover at SFO coming up. Seems there are a lot of restaurant choices, could some of you SFO regulars weigh in on what is good for an early dinner? The Mrs doesn't want to leave the airport and, unfortunately, won't eat sushi. TIA.

Welcome to Flyertalk, 2Bornot22B. I believe you will be better served if I move this over to the SFO Forum (Travel & Dining>United States>San Francisco).

Andale Taqueria is now so into airport food that it neglected at least one of its few non-airport locations. The Palo Alto branch is gone, replaced by a Mediterranean restaurant. Only Los Gatos is left. This would not be a positive development for quality at Andale in my book.

What terminal are you arriving and departing? That makes a bit of a difference. Just hopefully not T1 - that terminal is by far the worst of the 4. If you are leaving to/from T1, I'd recommend just going to the International Terminal and eating. Restaurants in the center public area are better than T1. Plus there are art displays to pass the time. Do you have lounge access?

The IT is not a long walk - maybe 10 minutes at a normal pace. You can also take the Airtrain, but I usually don't.
There is not much in T1. the SkyClub is before security, so you can have a drink up there and then move to the IT.

You can either walk or take AirTrain. The walk is inside and isn't that long; however, you can also take the AirTrain that connects all the terminals. The station entrance is above the departures level, just make sure you board the trains going in the right direction.
There is a Delta Sky Club in the International Terminal Pier A after security. However, one Delta webpage says it closes at 3:30PM and another says 4:30PM.
I read that SFO isn't very picky about restricting access to terminals if your flight isn't leaving from there, but I have never tried.
There is free wifi at SFO now too and here is the link to the exhibits showing in the terminals. Some are after security though, but Int'l Terminal has ones before security on both sides. http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/sfo_museum/exhibitions/
Here's the dining options in Int'l Terminal: http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/atsfo...e/dine/it.html
Check out Yelp - all the restaurants are reviewed, if you put in location SFO.

I agree with CApreppie -- T1 is the worst for food. It's really the worst all around. There are good dining options in all of the others.
I like the idea of going to Delta's landside club in T1 (3rd floor, above the check-in area) for drinks, then walking over to the landside dining options in the International Terminal. There are two very good restaurant clusters there, just across from security of A (north) and G (south). The A side is where you'll come in when you walk over from T1. Also, there is an interesting aviation museum landside on the A side.

The Skyclub drinks before eating is a great idea. (I've done similar, but with the old landside PC before it closed). I'd then mosey over and look at both landside int'l food courts and decide where you want to eat.
Firewood had a landside location, I don't know if it is still there. They used to have decent salads. It has been awhile since I've been.

It is still there - it's landside in the International Terminal. I had the misfortune to eat there a week or so ago. Dried out burger and horrible fries. Not recommended, which is a shame as at least it's like a restaurant unlike all the food court offerings. However, if you don't mind food courts and like Japanese, then Ebisu, also landside in the International Terminal, is probably your best bet if you want to be landside or in T1.

My suggestion would be to go to the SFO website at
http://www.flysfo.com/web/page/index.jsp#
Then click under Airport Maps -- take a look at both the Interactive Maps and the Printable Maps. Under each terminal, and each section of each terminal, you can peruse the dining options. There are a number of landside options shown. That way, you will have a better idea of what all the options are.
