Got it as well today. I was down to about $8 in my account because I redeemed $50 for Hilton last week (my expiration is June 30). So it's nice to roll over the full balance to the next membership year. I don't find e-Rewards to be an overly valuable program for me (get much, much more out of My Points, especially since I order about $200-400 in merchandise from Office Depot every month for my employer and get the points ) but it is nice to get a few extra thousand HHonors points every year for free and almost no time and effort.

I got an email, but it's not for an extension.

We are delighted to have you as an e-Rewards member, and we want to help you get the most from our program at every opportunity.

As you may know, our program rules specify that any e-Rewards currency earned in your membership year must be redeemed by July 31, 2004 at Midnight (CST). Accordingly, 75% of the unused e-Rewards currency that you earned prior to June 30, 2004 will soon be subject to expiration from your account.

PLEASE CLAIM A REWARD BY JULY 31.

You have until July 31, 2004 at Midnight (CST) to claim a Reward with your expiring currency. After that date, the expiring currency will no longer be available to you.
I also got another survey today. I'm not answering any since the points will be lost anyway.

You could always give the magazine subscriptions as gifts, or use them to renew your existing subs. (Warning: once redeemed, the magmall cert expires in 3 months, I believe. So you have to buy the subscriptions soon.)

I, too, think they need to offer a LOT more redemption opportunites, and put fewer restrictions on how often you redeem them!!!
Agreed. The redemption opportunities are very limited. I only redeem for HH points. I'll look at the Magmall option, however, most of these online magazine brokers require a credit card and put you on the automatic renewal program. I've stopped paying for all subscriptions by credit card because this seems to be the new hook they're using.

I may redeem for Blockbuster and just give it away to a friend.

Like Mary, I too was denied an extension and will expire on 31 July.

I wonder what I've done to have fallen out of favor with e-rewards. Maybe it was because I kept answering all those surveys they sent me.

Since yesterday's extension e-mail I've received four offers already today. Wonder if being on this "preferred" survey thing does mean you get more earning opportunities?

Finally Got the Email

As several others posted, I finally got the email allowing me to extend my erewards into 2005. Plus the $5.00 bonus for updating my profile, allowed me to redeem for the 1000 HHonors points. This was my first redemption, as they just don't send me as many emails as most of us here seem to receive, so I'd just about given up on erewards. But at least (after almost two years) I finally got something to keep me in their program, and a redemption, as small as it was.

I sent an email to customer service yesterday asking for the reason why some people were extended and I was not as well as asking for the extension.

I've been a member for a very long time, have always answered their surveys, and don't quite understand how I wasn't granted the extension when other, newer, members have.

When is your expiration date though? I've been a member for a long time and have always answered their surveys. I didn't receive the email with the extension offer. But my expiration date was earlier this year, so I assume that's why.

My expiration was June 30. I'm set to lose $43 in rewards as of 7/31 if they don't give me an extension.

I sent a note this morning asking for either an extension or the ability to redeem for Hilton 2 weeks early.

There's the reply.

Good Morning

Thank you for contacting e-Rewards. We can certainly understand your frustration and confusion. The expiration policy is based on several factors. We try to give our members ample opportunity to redeem and the expiration policy is in place to encourage redemptions. As our member list continues to grow it is necessary to put "expiration policy conditions" in place for each group of members. In reviewing your account I see that you currently have enough for a $50.00 redemption. You have the opportunity to redeem these credits for Blockbuster, Hertz, eBags, Forzeri, International Wine Cellars, Snowbird or IBM. Many of our members have enjoyed the redemptions from these sponsors and we would hope that you would take these opportunity to do so as well. It's unfortunate that we are unable to extend the expiration policy for you or offer you a Hilton Redemption but rest assured that you will have plenty of opportunities in the future to redeem for Hilton if you choose to do so. Please take this time to look over our other redemption opportunities.

We appreciate your interest in e-Rewards. Please do not hesitate to contact us, if you have any additional questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Cathi Gumpert

The only downside of this extension business for me is that, had I known or suspected this was coming, I would have answered a couple of lucrative (but more time-consuming) surveys that came in late June: one for $10 and the other for $15. I didn't answer them for two reasons:

1. I've had difficulty getting the points for this type of survey to post (it promises posting in 5-7 business days, but that never happens) and

2. The points were set to expire in just a few weeks anyway, so it seemed like a complete waste of time to answer the surveys. And of course I could have redeemed the points on SOMETHING -- except that most of the redemption opportunities are just worthless for me. Only HHonors is really usable or worthwhile. (Maybe magmall would be too; haven't tried them yet.)

They really need to rethink this whole points expiration thing; having a policy that DISCOURAGES people from answering surveys because of the imminent expiration of the points that would be earned seems really counterproductive.
