I agree - it is rotten and misleading - absolutely not what was expected by 99% of people who read the email from e-rewards announcing the AA tie up, BUT it is not completely useless. I am sure many people wanting the AA miles will have an AA.com booked flight in that period. Another plus that I see is that AA will award the miles directly (no waiting for a certificate in the mail only to send it off to AA for another wait).
The question I have is exactly how does the promo work? Do you have to make the booking through a link from e-rewards or can you just book as normal on aa.com and then select this promotion, knowing that your AA account will reflect an aa.com booked flight during the period and you will get the miles.

I know the 180 by E-Rewards on the AA awards is not great, but I keep reminding myself that "beggars can't be choosers". I am in no way inferring that anyone here is a beggar, but just mean that E-Rewards is free, and getting something is better than getting nothing. While getting AA miles would have been nice, none of us had to pay membership fees, etc., and so getting the new AA award or any of the existing awards still puts us all "ahead".

I stuck with them when they started sending me $0.35 and $0.50 emails and the upcoming AA redemption option was one of the main reasons. It's now going to be a lot harder to justify clicking on one of their emails ever again.

I see your point Derf, but I when I had mentioned 'free', I was just indicating that we didn't need to pay $3.95, etc. to be a part of the program. For those who just click on the e-mails and don't pay money to any of the offers, it still provides rewards at a much quicker rate than most reward sites out there.
I too would have liked for the original offer to have been kept in place, but no matter what e-mails we send in, or calls we make, I don't think they are going to change their minds

beggars can't be choosers!!!
Did any one paid a penny?
Stop begging be happy with what you got, any blame is on yourself, high expectations for wasting your time.
Yes, I earned points too, but I click on and around either while waiting to catch a plane, a meeting or in the john.
But to be addicted to miles, is a sickness, specially running your life around miles+miles+miles=wasted a life, for a freebie.

"Good Morning
Thank you for contacting e-Rewards. If you booked the trip on aa.com and you are traveling between March 1, 2003 and May 31, 2003 you would be able to receive AA bonus miles for the trip in question if you redeemed at this time.
If you have any additonal questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
XXXX XXXXXX"
So, I know what I'm going to redeem my E-Rewards for: AA Bonus miles. Thank goodness I booked my reservations online. Whew!
Hope this helps some.

Here's a little more detail, from the e-Rewards folks. I had asked if previously booked trips would qualify.
_______
Good Morning
You would qualify for the bonus since you did book the flight online at AA.Com and because it falls into the dates in question. It is not necessary to have a promotional code prior to making the reservation. What happens is once you redeem for the reward you are connected with American Airlines website and a note is made in your account. Once the flight is taken it takes up to four weeks after the flight for American Airlines to credit your accout.
If you have any addtional questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
Sincerely,
XXXXX XXXXXXX

Interesting that the travel dates that qualify have changed from Feb 1- Apr 30 to Mar 1 - May 31. I was just about to purchase a RT for 2/26 thru 3/4. Does anyone know it this RT would qualify since in involves flights after 3/1? The e-rewards site does say RT or 1way travel qualifies as long as its booked on AA.com. I've also sent e-rewards CS an email asking the same.

This is SO annoying, especially the requirement that it must be booked via AA.com.
I am flying this week on AA via HHonors Airline Rewards, which DO earn miles, and therefore could earn the e-Rewards bonus but... you can't book the HH reward flights on-line!!!
