FYI: there's a huge thread on SlickDeals about the eBay Groupon deal. For those of you fishing for referrals: by all accounts it appears that Groupon will not be giving any referral credits in conjunction with this particular deal (they've pulled this same stunt in the past for other incredibly hot deals), of course only time will tell for sure.

Despite what the T&C's say it is definitely possible to buy multiple eBay GC's, in fact there are reports on SD of individuals buying literally hundreds of them. Among other things this involved buying Groupon gift cards and using them on new accounts (thus negating the need for a new credit card) but Groupon has since temporarily disabled their gift card function, in addition if you have a credit card that allows you to create virtual credit card #'s that works too.

Finally keep in mind that Discover Card's shopping portal currently gives a 15% rebate on Groupon purchases and Mr Rebates gives 6% back.

Those purchasing hundreds of these by creating new accounts will ruin it for everyone, just like those who self-refer to "refer X friends and receive Y" will ruin those for everyone at some point.

That said, the deal is still on, as of right now.

You can receive cash back, or you can receive 6 miles/$ through United's shopping portal as well.

What? Really? Grrrrr. I spent hours sending my referral link to my friends in the USA, I know at least 6 who bought just from my link. Since I'm in Canada and can't use the Ebay cards, I thought I'd at least get a credit!

Unfortunately I was correct in that Groupon didn't give any referral credits in conjunction with the eBay GC bonanza. That being said I did have a bit of an epiphany as a result of that particular promo: if you see a Groupon deal that you want rather than buying the deal directly via your main Groupon account you should instead

1. Open a new account being sure to use the referral link from your main account
2. Using your main account buy a Groupon gift card in the amount of the exact price of the Groupon deal that you want to purchase for use by the new account (better yet purchase that gift card via a cashback site like the 15% back Discover portal or 6% back mr rebates)
3. Use the gift card in conjunction with the new account to actually purchase the Groupon deal (no credit card info is required for the new account since you will be using a gift card)

After doing this your main account will get a $10 referral bonus. NOTE: for extra hot super-special deals - like the eBay GC's - Groupon may temporarily quit offering gift cards but for normal everyday Groupon offers this should always work.

Sooo...there's apparently a Sun Country Groupon on, but the thread on it has been closed and the link removed because everything is supposed to go into the master thread. But there's no info on it here...anyone know anything about it?

A quick Google search came up with the link:
http://www.groupon.com/deals/sun-country-airlines-1

All flights must originiate in MSP. $180 gets you a domestic RT worth up to $300, or $320 gets you an international RT worth up to $600. Excludes flights to ANC and LGW. Travel must be completed by 11/21/11 and is not valid for flights on Fridays or Sundays.

edit: Also, it's a series of month-based deals, so you have to pick a month that your coupon will be valid for. All of the domestic tix are sold out except for June.

the question is...does this work? and if someone gets a gift card and doesn't pay with a new groupon purchase within 72hrs with a credit card considered a new purchase? thought about it but haven't tried it..might give it a go with the blockbuster express 2$ rentals...

The link was removed because the person posting it posted a referral link, not the direct link to the deal.

For the past several weeks Groupon has disabled the option to buy gift cards, when you try to do so you get the following message:

Sorry! This page is unavailablefor now.

We're working on some improvements to Groupon Gift Cards. We regret the inconvenience, but we think you'll really like what we have in store.

I can only guess this is at least partially in response to people catching on to the loopholes that gift cards allowed.

Just received an email from Groupon to earn $10 in Groupon Bucks when you use the Groupon app to purchase a deal whether it's a Daily Deal or a Now! Deal.* Offer ends June 28, 2011.
