registering the card after dining...
It doesn't seem anyone else has asked this question, but from reading the other posts here, it seems the answer is obvious. But I'll ask anyway.
I have an Amex card, and also got an additional card for my wife under my account. I registered my card with rewardsnetwork but we never registered my wife's. (And since it's Amex, even though it's the same credit card account, the numbers on the actual cards are different.)
Three weeks ago, we ate out at a spendy RN restaurant. My wife paid for it on her card. Today, in looking to see if it had posted, I noticed that her cc is not linked to RN. Grrr.
We went ahead and registered it now of course, but I'm guessing that RN will not give us credit for the past dine? Has anyone tried this? Why oh why does Amex have to issue additional cards with a different number?
Anyway I've already emailed RN and will call them this week. And will post results. But just wondered if anyone had tried this with any success.

I haven't tried it, but I would say - no!
Even though it's the same master account, because it has a different account number, I don't think RN will allow it. It's just like if 1 card was AX and 1 card was MC, or 1 card was a DL AX and 1 card was a Costco AX. They could say something like, "... that card could have been registered to your UA account, not your AA account ..." If you caught it prior to it posting (that day or the next), you may have gotten away with registering after the dine, but not 2 or 3 weeks later.
Good luck!

I would also say no credit.
I know it's not what you asked, but I imagine one could get credit if you registered a card after dining, but before the transaction posted. This has me wondering about something. Say someone got a new card and dined with it. Then he registered it b/4 the transaction posted on his credit card. Now, say it doesn't post properly, and he decided to send in the receipt. I suppose Idine could deny him if they checked the time of the receipt and the time he actually registered the card. I would hope they would been lenient in this case.
Unfortunately, in your case, three weeks is too long, but it doesn't hurt to try. Did you explain to them that it's the same account but different credit card number? Perhaps, they might be sympathetic. Please post what happens.

I had a meal not post so I called. They had me send my CC statement. They found yet another meal at the same restaurant from earlier that did not post. I explained it was because I had gotten a new card and forgot to register it until later (I registered between the first and second missed dines). She said "no problem" and submitted the whole thing for processing - I got points for it all.
She told me the time frame you have and I think it was a month. Definitely call them!

Potentially good news ... I explained everything to them, and they want me to fax in my cc statement, so I guess it means there's at least a possibility. I can update whatever the outcome is, but I imagine it may take a few weeks, on top of the holidays and all.

I don't think that you can charge with a card and then add it after dining and have the miles show up. The system works immediately, with the restaurant processing your credit card through the Rewards Network mainframe, not a bank's. So, once the card is swiped, Rewards Network gets the CC number, and processes the charge. They don't send them in at the end of the day or the next day or anything like that (at least that's what one restaurant employee inferred).
