I don't think that you can charge with a card and then add it after dining and have the miles show up. The system works immediately, with the restaurant processing your credit card through the Rewards Network mainframe, not a bank's. So, once the card is swiped, Rewards Network gets the CC number, and processes the charge. They don't send them in at the end of the day or the next day or anything like that (at least that's what one restaurant employee inferred).

Even though it's the same master account, because it has a different account number, I don't think RN will allow it. It's just like if 1 card was AX and 1 card was MC, or 1 card was a DL AX and 1 card was a Costco AX. They could say something like, "... that card could have been registered to your UA account, not your AA account ..." If you caught it prior to it posting (that day or the next), you may have gotten away with registering after the dine, but not 2 or 3 weeks later.
