I don't get why he blames the hechsher for the quality of the meal, They are just making sure it is kosher.
The blame should rest with Stogel for not improving the quality and with the Airlines for not insisting they improve or finding a better alternative.
Saying that the hechsher forces people to eat not kosher is a ridiculous assertion.

I agree no blame for the actual meal should be blamed on whomever gives the hecksher.

Most of the blame belongs on the different Carriers who simply want to spend as little as they can. Along comes Stogel and they probably want to earn $x per meal provided,so they work backwards, OK we want $3 a meal profit, the Carrier is only willing to spend $x per meal and our costs must fall in between. Lets not forget they need to lower bid then the other vendors as well

On top of that when I see the exp date of 1/31/16 I know its all sodium and other preservatives. Its really no different then an out-of-town place where the food in the restaurant is dreadful and the locals are simply happy to have anything being available. Of cause such a place wouldnt last a week in NY,LA,Miami but in the likes of a Detroit,SanFran, etc etc they can and do get away with it

I completely agree! When I fly on UA in premium cabins, the kosher meals are not nearly as good as on AA in premium cabins (not that on AA it's that great), but ultimately it boils down to what the carrier is willing to pay.

Even in coach, the difference between UA and AA kosher meals is noticeable. (I can't look at the UA KoshAir ravioli, I've gotten it so many times...)

To be fair on my AA business trancons Ive gotten what at best is a Y KSML on an Intl flight, while UA now with Regal does serve a meal like it does on their Intl BF flights. Havent flown AA 1st no reason to,to say if those meals are any bettter. However outside of the meals AA kills UA

I take it since it seems you arent WC or EC based that you are talking about UAs Intl flights out of ORD or connecting out of a Hub somewhere. I think by now all the hubs are Regal and KA has finally been given the shaft at least EC & WC wise.

I had 3 Asian trips back in Jan/Feb and only 1 meal was KA, it was breakfast and a cheese omlett which I prefer to Regals parve meal, but gladly will forgo it just to know KA is dead and gone

Exactly. I was referring to UA's flights out of IAH and ORD where I received the KA meals consistently. KA's cheese omelet is OK.

1- when was the last time you got KA?

2- unfortunately the entree is the only item that is edible on the whole tray. I do miss the apple slice pie they had on their Biz meal trays on the trancons but thats all I miss. KA always had french toast as their breakfast entree JFK-LAX/SFO so I simply hoped they didnt load it and was very at the eCert that PMUA would give me. Now COUA throws a few K of RDMs at me. Thats OK as Im Plat till 2/17 and they have seen the last dime out of me except for the taxes that needs to be paid for my award tkts.

I believe starting with 1/1 they pretty much ditched KA.On my SFO-Asian trips since 1/1 its been Regal every time . Havent flown IAH or ORD Intl so cant comment. But LAX and EWR were also Regal

Didnt eat anything the whole flight, a real pity since I hold the Zurich kosher caterer to be the 2nd best meal in the air after Hermolis of cause. Next time it will be LX

So much for all the spin by UA of improving its meals, or could be they are at the expense of the KSML ones
Update: UA we dont care is sending me a $200n eCert , once I get it hopefully I can convert it to RDMs instead. Before 3/1/15 I always took the eCerts, no longer RDMs are worth more IMO PMUA it wuld have been $300 or $350

Actually, it's € 34.00, € 9.00 charge for the standard meal plus a € 25.00 supplement for kosher.

Curiously, there is no extra charge for halal and vegetarian food and no other special meal, diabetic or gluten-free, costs more than € 7.00 on top of the standard meal charge.

Most likely because they will be provided by the regular catering company, whereas kosher food may only be prepared in a kosher kitchen and completely sealed until after reheating. The costs will be significantly higher as a result.

I was under the impression that halal preparation requires certification, similar to kosher, that should entail extra costs; yet, Jetairfly sells halal food without charging more than for the standard offerings.
