Suite Occupancy - The Rules?

Hi All,

I am a concierge member, in 2012 I stayed in suites in New York, Istanbul, London and many places around the world - I would always call or email the hotel to confirm a suite after booking, I had +90% success.

I would always book a double room and on occasion my girlfriend would travel, in New York I had a couple of friends with me. Gran Canaria (highly recommended hotel!) gave me a two bedroom suite so I took 4 friends along.

I just booked a double room in Budapest, emailed the manager who confirmed a suite with a king size bed and sofa bed. However, the two additional people need to pay 30 person / night - it would actually be cheaper for them to book their own room.

Is this correct or should I dispute?

Does anyone know the formal rules??

Thanks

Just to clarify: You booked, called the hotels, said you are Concierge and asked for a free upgrade to a suite? I seldom get a suite, Business Class rooms are what I get in 99% of upgrades. How do you manage to get a suite, and especially: how do you manage to get it confirmed so far in advance?? Or do you do the paid upgrade thing?

I book a normal standard double - never exec, premium, business etc.

Drop them a mail and ask, as a concierge member, will a suite upgrade be possible?

Worked so far in; Rome, Istanbul, Cardiff, Budapest, Bucharest, Prague, Paris, London, Liverpool & Manchester. I'm sure there are more but I can't recall.

Only issue was New York - I got a rather rude reply saying they couldn't offer anything and it will be first come / first served... Checked in couple ok weeks later into a suite!

If you ask they usually respond well to Concierge!

I did spend 165 nights at Radissons in 2012 so it's the least I expect!

I agree, as an SPG Plat I get suites in like 95% of my stays...so CC should do better.

Thanks for the info, seems awkward to have to ask for it in advance, but if it helps I'll do that (by the way I have asked for it at the counter several times before, but most of the times employees either didn't know I was Concierge, didn't see it or said all suites are taken).

Especially in Radisson Bucharest I really had to fight for my Business Class room and a Suite upgrade would have cost me like 100 Euro per night...so I am surprised to see it on your list.

Guess it all depends on who you deal with, and counter employees seem to be poorly trained in upgrade policy all over CC hotels...

Have booked a night at Park Inn Pribaltiyskaja (Russia,St.Petersburg) for 4500 gold points. Asked for upgrade during check inn. Got suite. Double storey appartment, 120 m2, sea view, large living area, piano, kitchen, office etc. Very nice "hotel room". Spent few hours at hotel's SPA as well.
