GVA
I remember the good old days when GVA was an expanding airport with many longhaul flights from here to the US and Asia. Now a days, we are left with a daily flight to JFK and have been downgraded to a regional airport. I was wondering if, due to the recent law suits filed by the Germans living north of ZRH would have any effect on the traffic into ZRH and subsequently divert more routes back to GVA? where the airport has modernized significantly since it last had long haul flights.

As far as I understand it, after an initial complaint, the 'Genveois' are quite happy not to have the same noise problems as ZRH. Nevertheless, I could imagine that some airlines (eg DL,TG) would fly to GVA instead of Zurich somewhen in the future. There seems however not to be any market for addidtional GVA-US flights since the last airline trying that, Swiss World, did only operate for about a year.

Yeah, not flying into GVA was another GREAT Swissair idea. Up there with buying into every sh*tb*x carrier in Europe and destroying their once great customer service. I have it on very high authority that SR is already insolvent and if things are not turned around by the end of the summer they will actually admit this to the Swiss people.

Airoli - I can't speak for others in the town of Geneva, and since I live outside the town I am not bothered by the noise, but I always enjoy watching planes descending or taking off from my yard here. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Not that I disagree, but why did TG and DL come up as airlines that might start back into GVA, why not AA as they aquired the TWA rights to the airport. I remember as a young child going to the observation deck at Contrin and watching all the large planes here. Its too bad there all gone. Its not like Geneva is a little dump town, but a fairly international city.

CTANK,
I did not mention AA 'cause I thought that - being SR allies now - they would rather want to support the "ZRH Hub" idea. I did not know about the TWA rights though. But this is all speculation.
