Does the A380 have legs to fly DOH-AKL? I thought its range was slightly greater than that of the 777-200LR.

Well, we didn't think they would fly the A380 to SYD either but then they did. I hope they do so!:)

ATL has been moved up to June 1st... should be an interesting inaugural flight.

I've never looked for direct flights to WDH, but when my other-half and I were there, we saw a Lufthansa plane on the ground.

Lufty used to have flights from Frankfurt to WDH, but they scratched that quite few years ago I think.

I am overjoyed by the KBV & CNX flights, surprised yes, but overjoyed.

Since MH pulled KUL-KBV, BA fly out too early from BKK for connections and MI no longer fly from SIN, there has been no decent OW connection in both direction.

It's loaded from 06 Dec:

QR 824 332 12..56. DOH KBV 0220 1300
QR 825 332 12..56. KBV DOH 1955 2320

Timings work if getting to the islands as well.

Also overjoyed it's not a 787 :D

CNX not loaded - presumed it's not planned as a KBV-CNX-KBV tag on?

(which would just about work if they can turn around the plane in CNX in one hour? i.e.- 02:20-13:00 // KBV-CNX 14:00- 16:00 // CNX-KBV 17:00-18:55, 19:55-2320)

I think you will find that the CNX connection is implemented through a QR code-share with Bangkok Airways on the CNX-BKK route. QR becomes the umpteenth long-haul carrier to do this.

Nope, I think you'll find QR are launching DOH-CNX using their own metal.

QR have codeshared on BKK-CNX for long time.

Ah, OK, thanks. I hope you are right - that will indeed be a big step forward - and I will watch for details with interest.

As have ... Krabi and Chiang Mai

I wouldn't have guessed that there is sufficient traffic to/from DOH to support these routes.

I believe EK fly to Krabi and Chiang Mai, so there is clearly demand.

The local DOH market will have little interest, but connecting passengers (especially from Scandanavia) will find the route beneficial (as long as the prices are right).

EK do not fly to either with their own metal - very few airlines do. MH & MI keep trying KBV with no success, there have been occasional weekly flights from Scandanavian airlines - but it's fair to say that the airport hasn't seen the expansion of widebody flights carrying the level of tourists they expected when they launched. CNX has a bunch of Chinese / HK airlines but nothing from MEA / Europe region.

Two big risks, let's hope it's a success! There are certainly enough Europeans that could fill a daily flight, albeit there may be struggles over low seasons.

Apparently AAB has now also confirmed the plans to operate the Santiago route, although no start date has been given yet.

That would be an interesting route, although also a very long one. As such, I presume it will be an add-on to GRU or GIG or EZE (which itself is an add-on).

I was at SCL last week, and it was mostly a mix of US based airlines, and TAM/LAN/AeroMexico.

BlackBerryAddict Mar 16, 2016 7:29 am

I was in SCL the week before - must've just missed you ;)

He was saying it would be non-stop, 18 hours. It would be just shorter than the DOH-AKL route that is scheduled to start in Dec 2016.

IB, AF, KL and QF also fly to SCL. Unfortunately LHR-DOH-SCL would be a bit of a long way around...
