Qantas is pretty much a no go as far as complimentary status.

If you are going to be travelling with QF and want to make travelling more civilised until you reach status level, you could join the Qantas Club. Costs AUD587 and provides lounge access to BA/QF/AA/US lounges and with Qantas provides access to check in at the QF Club check in, or where there is not one, check in at business class. It also allows an extra 10Kg luggage allowance and, when travelling withing Australia, priority luggage handling.

When you reach Gold, the remainder of the years membership will be suspended and reactivated should you drop below gold in the future. Although it isnt a staus match, it provides most of what you would get with Qantas should you have status.

I just tried from AA Platinum and was told no...had 3 trans-atlantic BA F segments in 3 weeks under my belt, and they said "no".

You should thank AA said no as you wouldn't get a single mile on your trips over the Atlantic with BA.

If your patterns are flying F with BA I strongly suggest you visit the BA Forum. Their program is designed for travellers who pay top fares and there you may easily get a comp...

Just my opinion...

At this point, I am pretty pregnant with the QF direction...technically should be exactly Gold now, if QF gives me the 30 credits for my FIM from BA to SK last week...

When/if I make Platinum...we'll see...BA doesn't ahve a lifetime award level...although that would take many years to reach.

I think you got it back to front. He is currently Lifetime Platinum with AA and wanted complimentary status with Qantas rather than vice versa. Bit redundant now since he should now have earned Gold

Dave... thanks for correcting me.

I understood it wrongly. Appreciate your input.

I can see no reason for QF to comp from another OW program. If you are top-tier OW, then you are most likely to use QF for trans-pacific sectors and Aus domestic, NZ and to many Asia destinations. So how does QF benefit?

The reason (some) airlines comp status is to try to entice you to use their airline instead of the competition. So unless moving from, say *A to OW, there is no benefit to the airline.

Now that there is no domestic *A carrier in Aus, there is less reason for QF to comp *A members.

Also note that it rare for any airline to comp to their top status (it does happen, but only if they really believe you have major influence on your company's airline spend). And if you have several paid premium class sectors planned, you can make QF Gold (or BA Silver or AA Plat - especially via the challenge) fairly quickly.
