It is still plastic knives because of the CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) regulation which prohibits the use of metal knives and applies to all airlines flying into and from Australia not just Qantas.

Enjoy your flight in First.

It seems to apply to all QF flights even LHR-HKG in F had plastic 3 weeks ago. I complained to the FA as I had just come off BA F ORD-LHR and had steel knives. Pointed out that my amenities kit just 3 feet away had 2 lovely sharp razer blades in it.

stupid ....stupid ....stupid rules.

Qantas excuse for no toothpicks onboard (including F) is that it's a safety matter!

Strange that the UK law doesn't prohibit metal knifes yet prohibits the use of the new cutlery as the fork 'spikes' (sorry forgot what they are called - jetlag ) are too long.

Only reason I can think of for not having metal on those flights is perhaps to keep the product standard within company since only 3 routes out of the network can have metal.

Toothpicks are now loaded in first class only.

And please don't complain to your flight attendant over things they and the company have no control over. (this includes the liquid ban too and it's also not my fault for the shambles that is LAX)

Being an Australian registered carrier , I thought that the Australian regulations apply to Qantas even on routes other than to/from/within Australia and so they are unable to offer metal knives

btw, the pointy things at the end of the fork handles are the prongs

"Tine" (in the US) or "tyne" would also be acceptable.

In regards to toothpicks just read they are looking into having these available in business class as well but as mentioned above are available in first.

I must say I've never had anyone ask for a toothpick in any of the three classes.
