Gday all,
I'm a US-based QFF and am looking at flying from Michigan to Seattle in August. Expedia shows good pricing for flights which have an Alaska Airlines flight number, codesharing on AA-metal. The same flights (sold by AA) are about $100 dearer.
Does anyone have any experience with earning QF points via AA-metal on a flight sold by another airline? Can I change the flight numbers at the AA checkin to the AA-flight numbers? I originally thought QF and AS were partners, but I guess this is now defunct?
Thanks in advance,
cheers
James

You are unlikely to be able to change flight numbers at check in

And remember that you cannot book these flights are part of a OneWorld Explorer or OneWorld Circle Pacific itinerary. Booking direct via Expedia with the AA code should be no problem with earning QF points.

thanks
Thanks guys for your quick replies. I guess the 60 SCs are worth the $100. Will keep an eye out for cheaper fares, but this one looked good so I thought I'd ask. The FT Brains Trust strikes again!
BTW - am i imagining things, or did AS used to be a QF partner? any idea what happened there? I know AS members get points on QF (and oneworld AA people on AS) but i guess its not reciprocal.
cheers

AS is not a partner airline in QFF, but QF is a partner airline in the AS FF plan. It is not a symmetrical relationship (AS got the best of that deal by far). QF partners are listed on the QFF website at http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/.../airline#jump1
Are you sure that you are getting 60 SCs? The plan changes May 25, and you may earn 0 SC and 0 miles depending on the AA fare basis; other fares continue to earn but you'd better check the fare basis against the QF list, it isn't well coordinated with non-QF fares. I'd never use QFF on a discount AA flight without checking twice that it is an eligible fare in the plan then in effect; pretty good chance of being surprised otherwise.

thanks number_6, yes I have that list of "eligible" AA econ/disc econ fare classes on a post-it note stuck to my office wall, plus the QF T&C is bookmarked! As you say, you need to be careful!
I always find it disappointing that the "special" oneworld airlines (BA and AA) have those 0.5/0.25 points in disc econ, but give status credits. just a tradeoff i guess. right now, i need all the SC I can get - my QF anniversary date is coming up fast!
Actually the new system may work in my favour as I can route via DFW for 15 SC instead of 10 SC via ORD. Ah, this is a fun game isnt it!
thanks again all for your valuable advice
cheers
