The ULTIMATE Qantas Guide

I was having a bit of a quiet afternoon and thinking how I needed to save some more web addresses that I have found in FT Forums that are very useful...and wondering why it has never been done on the QF Forum . Well, some time later I have compiled this list (which is by no means complete, but is a handy start). I'll be updating it further tonight.

Now this list is not mine, it's ours. Please let me know if I have missed any that you find useful, so that I can update it. (I'm wondering just what I am getting myself in for here ).

I will have separate posts for each of the different areas, just in case one post gets too big.

Firstly, if you are new to Flyertalk's Qantas Forum, we speak a slightly different language here than on other forums. as to what all these abbreviations are about...then you need to head to these posts first:

thadocta's For those new to the QF Board thread:
Qantas Forum's newly designed Status Levels & Initials

Now if you're flying QF domestically, have access to the Qantas Club (now better known as the QP) and want to meet any fellow Flyertalkers who might be there, head to the following meeting points where we congregate:

FT Corners - SYD T3, BNE, MEL
FT Corners - ADL, CBR, SYD T2, PER

Now that you've read them (and hopefully understood just how different we really are )...

QANTAS:

Is the Qantas Frequent Flyer program suitable for me?

The scheme is open to anyone, wherever they happen to live in the world. However, in order to attain or maintain any type of status, you will have to fly at least 4 qualifying QF segments each membership year.

This includes eligible fares on codeshare services operated by other carriers (see Codeshares and the Joint Service Agreement), but for those without a travel pattern which takes them to Australia / New Zealand / South East Asia during each membership year, it could prove difficult or more costly to attain or maintain membership status.

Team,

In order to keep "Stickies" to a manageable level, I'm adding to this excellent guide:

Qantas keeps its head low in the news lately

Brain not functioning very well, but here goes, as a BA Silver/OW Sapphire, if you are travelling on Jetstar, does that mean you can get lounge access?

Thanks

Official answer is no (except if you are flying StarClass Internationally). Only Qantas Club/Gold/Plat/CL members get access to the lounge when flying Jetstar. In practice, this is up to the discretion of the entry staffer at the lounge and I've heard stories about BA members getting in.

LGA, thanks for the updated link - I've added it to the CX area in post #3.

I'm moving to Australia in a couple of months and have been doing some research on Qantas FF program, just read this on their webpage:

From 1 July 2013, only Status credits earned from flights with a Qantas flight number (including partner airline flights with a QF flight number) will contribute to the Status credits calculation for the Loyalty bonus. Tier qualification and retention requirements will remain unchanged.

In general QF program it's not really tempting at all, this makes it much worse.

Yes, it does make things worse for those who gain much of the SCX's from travel on QF's oneworld partners.

And on the off chance there are any other Target shooters (or hunters) on these boards...

To get the "Approval Letter" for carriage of firearms on QF send an e-mail to [email protected] requesting same. Include full name, License number and initial flight number (the letter is good for 12 months)

Take the letter to check in when travelling with firearms.

One wonders why DArne, with their first post, responded to a comment that is 8 year old
