Guess what made front page at the BBC?

Qantas dress code: Singlets and flip-flops out of the club

Flyertalk was ahead of the media with this one...

QF announced that it would be enforcing the published dress code
QF is now enforcing the published dress code

Seems to be nothing to whine about. People had time to address attire if wanting lounge access

Bad policy. Poorly worded. Completely unneeded. Does nothing to solve the real problem, poor behavior.

This will do nothing more then create discrimination.

Discriminating based on attire is not something that is in any way wrong

So long as we can also discriminate based on the volume people speak on mobile phones and the volume that groups of people make when they are discussing something (especially after a few). These, IMO, are far more offensive than wardrobe issues,

Those are not listed as part of the terms and conditions of membership

Yes, it is. Even more so when there is a reason for such attire that others may think is "wrong" or "bad".

If the attire complies with the terms and conditions, then should be admitted - if it does not, then should not - this is nothing to do with gender

If not prepared to adhere to the T&Cs , then don't join

It has everything to do with appearance and the subjective views and bias of the person/s making the determination.

What's subjective about identifying if a pax is wearing shorts and thongs?

What I find curious with the renewed enforcement of the lounge dress code is the discrepancy this introduces to QF's premium product. It's odd (to me) that J or F pax, whose attire would not cause any eye-batting on board (such as sandals), would be refused lounge access. The singlet ban doesn't seem like it would be much of an issue (I don't recall seeing them in the BNE, SYD, and PER lounges). Sandals/thongs are an entirely other matter.

Lol, there's a member of the British aristocracy (so it would seem ) on the BAEC section of FT who is sneering about the idea of Australians enforcing polite behaviour in regard to this issue...I suppose it's cute that some of them still think that the empire exists and that they can display some cultural superiority
