The photo is interesting, having Australian and Alitalia next to each other. Was there only 1 terminal then, with split domestic/intl ops? Or a separation not apparent in the photo? I'm always interested in how MEL developed over time.
Not sure about the arrangements at MEL, but that photo, suggests that the Australian passengers were assigned airstairs (and were perhaps bussed) rather than using the jetbridge like the Alitalia in the back ground - guess it must have been parked up at the international gates for some reason....

Most of memories of flying back then were in/out of DRW (from the old terminal), where weather just meant staff handed out umbrellas either at the terminal door or the base of the airstairs for the dash across the tarmac...

Thumbs up First offical photo

abt.com.au has the official photo in this article.

It seems QF is going full on nostalgia to find their mojo. Now will they order the 747-8 to complete the circle?

I do like it but miss it on the 747.

Internet search came up with this great photo.

Shirley they could have gone for proper retro? That livery isn't that old. John Travolta's 707-138 comes to mind https://www.google.com.ar/search?q=j...w=1325&bih=644

Well the one chosen means "Qantas" to me so I support it.
The older versions are part of history and I do not have any sense of attchment to them.

Nonsense. The 707, and its near cousin the 720, are as distinguishable at first glance as the 747. How can one possibly miss the antenna (or lack of) even in passing?

It looks better than the current Qantas livery.
