Qantas to Celebrate Kangaroo Logo Anniversary with Retro Livery

One of Qantas' brand new B737s will receive a retro livery that pays tribute to the airline's 70-year-old iconic kangaroo logo. The airline will take delivery of the &37 in late November.

This will also be Qantas's 75th B737 to be delivered and the last it has on it's delivery books.

Thanks god this is the last. QF has orders for 99 A320NEOs which I hope will not just be entering the JQ fleet but be used for QF mainline.

I was going to comment that IF this is a domestic aircraft, then perhaps it should be in TAA livery. But then I thought through what the QANTAS acronym stands for.

Actually the 75th 737-800 series. 75th of all 737 types to the QF group was Jetconnect's Jean Batton ZK-ZQA.

What's wrong with the 737, or is it just QF's layout on them?

As for the livery, the current one has been around for ages and still looks good. Now I wish BA would revert to something from the past (I liked the one where they made every tail different) as the current one is a shambles...

The current livery has only been in place since 2007.

Only very small changes since 1984, though. The majority of the traveling public would not notice.

True. It's a great livery, has withstood the test of time well ^

Actually, as far as aircraft with kangaroos on the tail go, I much prefer the original Australian Airlines livery. Far more stylish.

Ah the good ol' days when Alitalia flew to Australia too.

Yeah - via MEL and SIN from SYD.

I would catch the SYD-MEL leg here and there ...

Agreed - I was a kid when the changeover from TAA to Australian occurred, and we called them "the blue Qantas".

The photo is interesting, having Australian and Alitalia next to each other. Was there only 1 terminal then, with split domestic/intl ops? Or a separation not apparent in the photo? I'm always interested in how MEL developed over time.
