If you currently have no way to earn a single point over the coming 7 months I'd question the urge to retain them and would be looking to spend. Chances are that by the time you finally do get to earn/spend, redemption rates will have deteriorated again (and maybe again ...)

From the sounds of it, transferring points in from Amex or Marriott should do the trick. Sorry about resurrecting an old thread. I’m not a regular in the Qantas forum.
