Disaster - Just lost over500k points

Hi All

Just received my FF statement and I find that my point balance is a big fat zero. Last month I had over 500,000. Seems, because I haven't used my points in any way over the last 18 months they simply wipe them out of your account.

The thing is that we flew Jetstar a month prior to the 18 horizon but this flight for some reason did not credit any ff points.

What is the best way to tackle qantas to recover my points?

The reason I was saving the points was to get a bsuiness class return to Europe for my partner and I.

No Happy

Did you receive an email from QF warning of the pending loss of points?

Only the more expensive JQ fares include QF points (a bundle). If so, you could try to have the missing points credited and this may save the points ??

My wife lost a lot (>100K) and they told her if she could find some qualifying activity in the past 18 months that was not claimed, they would reinstate the points.

She said she didn't receive an email about the forthcoming expiration, QF said they sent it, and this didn't get any sympathy or traction.

Note what og said, and if your Jetstar fare was eligible for points (big if) then claim it. What you were saving the points for isn't relevant.

AwardWallet will help you keep track of when your points expire, especially if you have orphaned points in different schemes.

Other airlines can be but better about reinstating points in this situation.

18 month expiry is pretty stingy IMO - a lot of airlines who have this kind of expiry work on 3 years, which Qantas used to. Clearly they wanted to go get some points off their balance sheet, hence the change.

If Qantas refuse outright maybe consider going to the press, which might prompt a goodwill change of heart.

I'm coming up to the 18 month mark too - UK based.

Is their an easy way to add a small number of points ie surveys etc like AA sometimes do offering 1000 points?

Firstly it is unlikely that the Jetstar flight would credit unless a Plus/Max/etc. package was purchased at the time of booking.

Secondly, QFF have a 'reinstatement' challenge, "GOODWILL POINTS CREDIT".

You will need to contact Qantas and request it.

See here from the "Australian Frequent Flyer" forum for recent successes:

Anybody with any experience getting wiped points reinstated? | Australian Frequent Flyer

You buy something through ebay (after going through the qantas portal)

Order something from Selfridges?

You'd have to check UK delivery options.

Are you receiving any emails from QF?
Is the email address in your QF profile up to date?

18 months with no activity or expiry is not unusual, just as 3 years is not unusual.
Some ffp's, like SQ & EK, have a hard expiry. Use them or lose them after 3 years.
FT thread--->Miles/Points that Do and Don't Expire (click to open the wiki)

Edit (02 Jun 2023)
Non flying actives to keep QF points alive.
Some vendors credit immediately and others can take weeks

Some of these may not work. Can be location dependant.
  1. Ask QF to send you a new QF ffp card. Cost 1000 points. Has been mentioned in some posts, but not confirmed in recent times.

  2. Donation to a charity. https://www.qantasstore.com.au/c/Charity/11

  3. QF Rewards Store Australia https://marketplace.qantas.com/au/ Was qantasstore.com.au
May not be the best value for points option.
Some items may not be available to people who are not in Australia.

  4. QF Rewards Store New Zealand https://marketplace.qantas.com/nz/ Was qantasstore.co.nz
May not be the best value for points option.
Some items may not be available to people who are not in New Zealand.

  5. Shopping Qantas https://shopping.qantas.com/
Many vendors. Log in and click/search a vendor/product.
May not be the best value compared to other retail outlets. Some have points & pay cash option, where you select the mix of points/cash you spend.
Site used to be better when it had an option to search by price (low to high)

  6. Shopping Qantas - booktopia
    https://shopping.qantas.com/booktopia
Log in and search for vendor
Earn 2 points per $1 on eligible products once you've linked your Frequent Flyer details to your Booktopia account
(Points usually credited within 7 days after the delivery date)
    plus
Earn 2 points per $1 when you click through from Qantas Shopping each time you shop
(Points usually credited to your account within 95 days)

Total 4 off QF points per $1 spend
They have ebooks from $0.99 that can be downloaded, so no physical delivery needed.
    Order 2 x $0.99 ebooks for 4 QF points.

From AFF:- Qantas/Booktopia partnership ending 15 May 2023. You can still earn points by shopping through the online mall, but not
    directly with Booktopia.

  7. Shopping Qantas.- Pizza Hut (Australia)
    https://shopping.qantas.com/pizza-hut
Log in and search for vendor.
Earn 3 points per $1 when you click through from Qantas Shopping each time you shop

Order a pizza for delivery or pickup.
    https://shopping.qantas.com/shop?id=...coupon=1702249
Has the option of paying cash at pickup. So those overseas could order and have someone pick up & pay cash.

  8. BP - Qantas (from ~ March 2020)
    Link--->BP fuel
Join BP Rewards to earn up to 2 Qantas Points per litre and 1 point per $1 spent on eligible in-store products.

At bp you can earn and use Qantas Points, making it a perfect stop for rewards. Simply join BP Rewards and scan your Qantas Frequent Flyer card at the counter to be rewarded with points every time you fill up with fuel, grab a snack or pick up the essentials. Plus, you can use Qantas Points on your purchases in-store or via BPme. Each time you select to use Qantas Points, you’ll also be able to earn on the same transaction - making it even more rewarding.
  9. QF survey
Link https://www.redplanetportal.com.au/ gets QF points. Unsure if you need to be an Australian resident. Posts in a few days.
At January 2020 was not open to new applicants.

  10. Australian residents can join Hoyts Reward program (movies)
Link QF account and get 100 QF points. QF points credit in 24 hours IME. May or may not work for non Australian residents.
    https://www.hoyts.com.au/rewards

Time to post to QF ff account unknown.

    https://www.secureparking.com.au/en-...-qantas-points
    https://www.secureparking.co.nz/en-n...-qantas-points

Important: From 1 Feb 20, Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Business Rewards Members will no longer be able to earn Qantas Points through Secure Parking services. All Qantas Point offers prior to this date will be honoured as per normal conditions.

  21. QF Qantas Wellbeing (health) app
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...hl=en_AU&gl=US

You can find instructions online about how to do this outside of Australia. Although it's not necessarily supposed to work this way, I was able to download it simply by temporarily switching my VPN to Australia, which made it show up in the Google Play store. As I recall it took a couple of days of the app being up and running for it to be fully connected to my Qantas account, during which time I didn't think it was going to work after all. But one day the points started transferring and it's been working like clockwork since then. Highly recommended!

qantas has a survey company (red planet research) and I get a small number of points (300) from doing a regular survey.
Also by using your qantas cash card ( I think you get 1.5 points for each $A1 you spend in foreign currency)
and those small amounts keeps the account ticking along.

There are a lot of UK based retailers linked with Qantas Online Mall and using the QF portal to access these stores will give you points and keep your account active. It's a few extra clicks but worth it for the points if you were shopping anyway, and you never know when a few hundred extra points might come in handy!

Be sure to have cookies enabled and adblocker turned off as I once lost out on points for a washing machine purchase due to having ....... on!

If you're adding CC points monthly do QF consider that "activity"?

Yes
I haven't accrued any points from flying for years (all those go to AA)
So my only points have been from CC spend
No problem with expiring points at all

You can earn points through Airbnb stays as well. My points posted without a problem after my stay was complete.
