FLounge Concierge Experience

Hi Everyone,

I will be flying MEL-HKG in F next week. I will then be connecting on CX through to Taipei.

I was wondering whether anyone had experience with the concierge service in the FLounges, particularly with making restaurant reservations.

There is a restuarant in Taipei that I would like to try, and haven't had any luck ringing them myself. I was thinking maybe the concierge may have more luck.

Cheers.

I think you may have more luck finding someone who speaks Mandarin - I doubt the QF concierge does. Either wait til you get to HKG and ask one of the agents in The Wing (though it's predominantly Cantonese which is spoken here) or call ahead to your hotel in TPE and ask for their help. Enjoy your flights.

The QF uses Sofitel Concierge Services to provide concierge assisstance at the MEL & SYD F lounges. I recall QF saying that they used Sofitel for this service due to their "global reach".

With this in mind, the language issue should not be a problem, as Sofitel will no doubt send your request to be dealt with by someone in the region.

Based on prior experience with 'concierges' in any Sofitels I've stayed in, I wouldn't trust them to tie their own laces, unless I showed them how. That said, the Sofitel-provided waiting staff in the QF lounges are super.

Booking through your hotel in TPE is generally the best way. Another alternative is the concierge service provided by some credit cards, they tend to be excellent at this and better than hotel/airline concierges (perhaps being in a call-centre gives some resources as well as high volume of potential business).
