Multiple times, which makes this feel like essentially an advertisement for OP's paid airfare finding service.

Folks I searched of course for LIR (I search for every fares before posting) - I missed that one. We'll work on that.

I found away around this. Leave LAX one day early and stay the night in MIA on the way down. Same price No problem on the way back.

Sure it means an extra night in a hotel room, but we have plenty of points and we will arrive refreshed. For us it is a vacation we would have done anyway. This will be our third year in a row in Tamarindo & Papagayo.

We are doing the same thing this July. How are you getting to LAX? I did not realize purchasing a 2nd AA ticket SFO-LAX would not allow us to thru-check bags, so now am looking at overnight in LAX on the outbound (in addition to overnight in MIA) in order to ensure making our LAX-MIA (77W) flight in the morning.

We'll be using either award or a purchased tickets to get to LAX. We're planning on carry on only. We will also be staying overnight in LA on our return due to the late arrival time.
