passport number and ectickets

Hello,

When you book a flight they ask you for your passport number. What happens if you need to renew your passport after you have made your booking and get a new passport number. Did anyone has gotten into this situation? Will you get into trouble by customs or boarding the gate, because your passport number isnt the same as you did your booking with?

thanks
Jasper

It wouldn't be too hard for the airline to amend you details before departue.

I would maybe give them a call. It should just be a case of cancelling the previous details and adding them again.

Unless customs or attendants at the gate, or check-in attendants, actually read the passport number and compare it to the one you booked with, I don't see a problem. As far as I could tell in my travels, they just take a quick look at your name and the photo... but maybe that depends on the country.

I have never even heard of that or have it happen to me. I never was asked for my passport number when booking a flight. Only on flights to the USA my passport is scanned for APIS. Are there other countries which want your passport data bevore arrival?

Could someone please explain this to me.

There are a few which require API - here is a list from the BA web site as an example: http://www.britishairways.com/travel...o/public/en_gb

Some (all?) domestic airlines in China wont issue e-tickets to anyone who doesn't provide their passport number. Paper tickets are OK, though.

Thank you for the link. I had no idea how widespread this nonsense already is.
