New? He's been wearing that one for ages.

I think this would me more appropriate him considering the vast majority of those he leads

Oh, and from the article posted above:

Umm, that's a lie! Screeners (err, I mean OFFICERS) get an initial uniform allotment, then $150 a year to buy new items as needed. They also can make purchases using personal funds, although why anyone would choose to do so is beyond me! :)

But it's not as if the uniforms all were issued at once, and thus needed to be replaced en masse, which is what the spokesperson suggested. WRONG! :td:

Wow, DOJ, Bureau of Prisons federal emplyees get $400 a year for uniforms. You guys should complain to your union reps for equal treatment. Oh, sorry, you guys don't have unions do you?

Got me kinda of smiling now!

Thank god. It's hard enough to get rid of the people who don't want to work as it is.

Technically speaking, TSOs can be in Unions all they want to. They're just restricted by law from striking, or having collective bargaining rights.

Amen to THAT!

Last airport I worked at, I'd never seen such a bunch of whiners! We had a brand-new terminal, everything state-of-the-art ... and our checkpoint, baggage handling area, and break rooms were really nice. Now, this was a small airport, so we'd have quite a bit of time, sometimes as much as an hour, in between flights. And the TSA and/or airport management had decided that in order to save costs, the TSOs would do the routine cleaning (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, Windexing, etc. -- no bathrooms) of our areas. I never minded ... I figured it gave us something to do during the "down times," and made the workday go by faster ... but you should have heard some of my co-workers P&M about how they were hired to be security screeners, NOT cleaning people!

As a part-timer, I've always found the uniform allowance to be more than sufficient, given that our gear is very inexpensive. Pants and shirts each are less than $20, and the old uniforms held up quite well. (It's too soon to say whether the new ones will -- I have my doubts about those shirts!)

Is that Skeletor? Or is this Skeletor? Or is this Skeletor?

Tough call - nice uniforms though.

Nope. this is not right new uniformed. Why you try to do something else right appropriate new uniformed. I think its logic choice from TSA is already new unfiormed from last week. You won't mind if you ever try go to airports to stop by say hello to TSA.

I don't talk to TSA. :td:

I'm not so sure about that! I used to bleach my white uniforms to get the cow slobber out (the girls like to greet me when I come home from work). Obviously, I won't be able to do that now.

Agreed, if the TSOs make the effort to iron the shirts. That doesn't seem to be happening where I work.

My FSD is pretty strict on uniform appearance issues. I've found that I need to take my uniform items to the cleaner to meet his standards. I don't mind much, as my cleaner is a nice Albanian woman who gives me a good deal, since I am such a regular customer.

You can definitely tell who didn't iron the new shirts and pants.

This is counterintuitive, because the poly-cotton blend should be better than pure poly in that regard.

I think the new uniforms breath better than the 100% poly. My airport gets pretty uncomfortable in extreme weather. My gripe is that I used to buy my own 100% cotton uniform pants to wear instead of the issued pants. They fit me better and were much more comfortable on hot, humid checkpoints. The new pants fit poorly and are much less comfortable than what I used to wear.

Our FSD has specified white undershirts only -- no black allowed. Sigh! :)

White, crew neck tee is "preferred" at my airport. FSD is giving us some time before he makes this an official local requirement.

Actually, I've been surprised. I've gotten a lot of compliments on the blues in the last couple days. (I was off the 11th and 12th.) I've even had some airline employees and passengers flag me down so they could get a good look at the new uniform and 9/11 patch.

I also got a few laughs when I accidentally referred to the badge as a "real mall-cop metal badge."

Sure, no problems. I always to talks with TSA at PHX. Sometimes that I am take on the breaks from work but, I went downstairs to see my friends who work at x-ray machines. I am already knows of them. That's why I haven't chance watched the x-ray machines at ticket lobbies but, I went down into the concourse to watched the airplanes were there. I always watched the ramp worker is unload the baggage off the cargo hold.

Is that still ticket passengers only is still on effect. Right?

Ridiculous badges

Going through the checkpoint at PIT today, I saw the new badge for the first time. It says "US Officer," unless I didn't notice some qualifying term.
What, exactly, is a "US Officer"?

Someone who says "thank you, walk thru" now.

"officer". What a joke. It will always be Workfare employee.

The security guards at my (private) university are Security Officers. I bet they feel great to be on the same level as TSOs.

Lucky them. :(

Perhaps as a society, we should all just bestow titles upon ourselves in an effort to command respect. Never mind that both titles and respect are usually earned, let's all give ourselves a false sense of deserving the bowing and scraping of others.

How about these:

Master Fryer Supervisor

Chief of Hub Cap Shining

Resident Stationary Engineer (Flinstones, anyone?)

The Duke of Ted

Colonel of the Mens Room

Lord of the Lawnmower (Do You Want Your Grass Cut?!?)

General BarFly

Queen of Afternoon Television Loss Prevention and Quality Assurance

Many employers who don't have the decency to pay a living wage seem to make up for it by at least bestowing an appealing title!

Administrative assistant = secretary

Account executive = salesperson

Sous chef = prep cook

And so it goes ...

Silly but serious question: If it is a Threat to National Security for you to leave your shirt in your car in the Secure Airport parking lot, how can you leave multiple shirts at a gasp public commercial cleaner? Do they have to press them while you wait lest the Taliban sneak in and steal them?

Title creep: My local hospital had a Help Wanted ad for "Facilities Environmental Specialist". After reading the job description, in the old pre-PC days this job was called "the janitor."
