Haven't seen any smurfs yet, but looking at the Omaha article -- could they have picked a worse shade of blue? Because of the dyes needed to make that colour, after a few washings with typical American laundry detergents, each shirt is going to end up being a different shade of blue. Granted, the shirt wouldn't look as bad if it were a few shades lighter, but it'd still look smurftacular.

Caught a video of a TSO modeling the next generation of customer-friendly uniforms. Fortunately the smurfiness has been toned down a bit and the new uniform is designed to be less-intimidating:

There has a been a whole slew of potential uniforms for TSOs over the years. Some ridiculous, some downright paramilitary. One of the original prototype designs for TSO uniform way the heck back in the day was a white button-up shirt, matched with red pants and a red suitcoat.

Another original design concept back in 2002 was standard BDU-style pants and jacket combo, only in flat gray instead of camouflage. It would have been the ultimate in utilitarian design choices, comfortable to wear and to keep clean, made for the physical work we have to do, but I'm guessing it was decided that it would have presented the wrong image to the public ;)

Anyways, at least at my checkpoint, the supervisors (at least one or two of them) are going to be writing TSOs for minor infractions of the uniform policy such as unpolished shoes (I'm thinking they want military-style mirror sheen, I doubt that's going to happen on my cheapo $20 Wal-Mart Purtian brand oxfords, which I have to wear because the TSA's uniform supplier doesn't have any in my size in stock.), wearing the old name tag... and possibly gasp, wearing the white uniform... which some people are going to have to wear because they don't have their blues in yet... the recent new hires.

 I understand having us to look professional almost the point of looking power-tripping mall security supervisors and such, but these two supervisors have been harping on it since July... they seem to care more about the uniform policy then enforcing the SOP.

What's even more funny, is today is my training/OLC day, so I won't even be in full view of the public though.

Supposedly, in the future, we're going to be screened randomly by our ADASP teams, but not at the moment.

I find it sad that they'll write up for stupid stuff like that but ignore the bad apples that truly are a discredit to the agency. :td:

Those will command the respect for the screeners that the TSA so desperately desires.

Can't forget Kippie's costume to go with it:

And now, the Fashion Police

Please, we were only joking when we said the next Mission Creep addition for TSOs with shiny new badges would be as Airport Fashion Police. I shudder to think of people like your FSD getting that kind of Au-thor-ah-tay Power Trip over the general public for even sillier rules than "<3/3.4 oz Explosive Toothpaste ONLY". :td: "Those flip flops ain't spit shined, do ya wanna fly today?"

So that recent political slogan is true?

You can put lipstick on a TSO, but he's still a only a smurf in drag who's going to get 10 demerits from the supe. :D

Oh, it's a colossal waste of taxpayer money, for sure! That kinda goes without saying ...

Especially changing our shoulderboards from black and GOLD to black and SILVER. I mean, really, was that necessary??? I'm pretty sure the gold ones would have sufficed in a pinch.

I have items from the old uniform that I've never even WORN ... now I have to cut them up and throw them away. I really hate waste, so yeah that does bug me ...

It's not like the uniforms were a huge improvement -- they're basically the same, just a different color shirt. Big whoop!

And the extra-wide belt makes me feel rather the lil guy in the 4th pic down on this site ... http://www.rense.com/general79/jcpenny.htm LOL!

Anything more than the maroon polo shirt is a waste of money... But that would just make too much sense.

Yikes!!! They're pretty lax where I work. Occasionally, they'll come down on one of the girls for having a ponytail more than 2" below her collar. One chick (a spunky little lass) who was called on the carpet insisted that her ponytail was in compliance, and demanded they bring out a ruler and measure it! ^

I only *wish* they'd give us one-day suspensions for wrinkled shirts ... my request to take a day off this month was denied and I'm sure I'll be massively hungover (we're hosting an Oktoberfest block party the night before) ... it would be sooo nice if I could just show up in a wrinkled shirt and be sent home to sleep it off in peace! :D

It's missing ... something ... near the tail. Something TSA produces a lot of.

Thanks! I am really like it the custumes with Star Wars. I think this is great for Halloween party will be coming up on October 31. I'm sure if I will try to buy the Star Wars custumes. I knows Darth Vader is evil & powerful Jedi. It was trying to killed his former master jedi knight Obi Wan Kenobi.

Tough call - nice uniforms though.
