The problem, of course, is that TSA (and CATSA) believe that the only source of information should be their propaganda from headquarters.

While most corporations have rules that make discussion of certain topics by ordinary employees "off limits" (stuff that could cause an Investor Relations or Compliance issue), TSA and other government agencies take it to a whole new level.

When I had my OpSec training that was clearly delineated - classified, confidential or LE sensitive material cannot be material that is simply embarrassing to the agency.

TSA is the last agency that should be lecturing anyone on security, let alone opsec.
But all employees should receive a brief. It is supposed to be part of mandatory training, right up there with EEO and sexual harassment training.

I had a federal security briefing in which there was a typo on the slide - it described "classification may be used for material that is embarrassing or otherwise to cover up questionable or illegal action by the agency". I did point out the fact that the word "not" was omitted....

Unless the terrorists are dressing up like furries, I don't think you have much to worry about!

Agreed, but that's often not the case. TSA and DHS aren't alone in abusing that though they seem to be the worst offenders.

A lot relegate it to a web based course.

Maybe that's a new disguise. Terrorists seem to be a hairy bunch ...

I'll Contact Canada's Government

I'll join the growing chorus speaking out to assure you (and the government functionary in Ottawa who is sure to be monitoring this) that you have done nothing worthy of any apology. And to thank you for your informative participation in these discussions that have helped improve the relationships between Canadians and the rest of the world.

If anyone else in the U.S. wants to complain about the silencing of this voice from north of the border you may want to do as I will and write via the Canadian embassy to the United States.

Their ambassador is the Hon. Michael Wilson. He can be reached by writing

Embassy of Canada
501 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20001-2114

###EDITED TO ADD###

I have mailed a letter to Ambassador Wilson with a copy to Jane Greene, president and CEO of Aeroguard Group in Toronto. (They're the firm with the contract to provide screeners and were mentioned in an earlier thread.)
