Well I think if I had a bad personal experience with either one of those catagories I would certainly feel exactly that way. And since I HAVE had things stolen by the TSA I think I have a good reason to suspect them.

Wrong analogy.

The Catholic Church and Boy Scouts don't force the kids to wear ___-less chaps, and then claim it's for their safety.

Apt analogy - it's taking an identifiable behavior within a section of a group and then labeling an entire group with it.

Also known as "stereotyping."

They are not thieves, they are preventing people to protect themselves against thieves, thus helping the thieves. Often, you'd call someone a thief even if he only drives the car to crash into the store. This is inaccurate, but it's quite common. No stereotyping at all, just a little slip of words.

Whatever you want to call it, it is an inept and unprofessional organization. Facilitating theft is just one problem area that the TSA needs to revisit.

Work for a group that promotes theft via stupid policies and you're apt to be branded a thief.

Geez, use a little common sense and intellect when reading my posts, dude. OF COURSE I know that not every TSO is a thieving thief. DUH! If we were standing together in person I'd be shaking you by the shoulders while saying that (figuratively if not literally).

My point is that the TSA is facilitating this behavior with their policies, both on the alleged-terrorist-prevention front as well as on the hiring criteria front. TSOs ARE stealing from checked bags (as well as carry-ons) because they have the opportunity, they have plausible deniability ("can you prove it wasn't the baggage handlers?"), and some feel undercompensated and given the first two items feel they can "stick it to the man" with no repercussions.

So once again for those who still don't get what I'm trying to say, I will spell it out with no ambiguity: OF COURSE not all TSOs are thieving thieves. However, there is SOME NUMBER GREATER THAN ZERO of them who ARE thieving thieves. Therefore, I consider ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO WEAR THE UNIFORM to be thieving thieves. They steal property from their CUSTOMERS, and they steal PAYCHECKS from their employer (uh, that would be US, the taxpayers funding the effort) by doing nothing to accomplish their agency's so-called stated objectives.

It's called hyperbole. Look it up on dictionary.com if you must.

I see people doing things that put them at risk of losing their items from theft I educate them.
My experience has been identical to that of the TSO who posted here earlier (yes, I too had a passenger walk off without her shoes! ) and I also try to encourage people to keep their wits about them.

For the record, at the 2 airports I've worked at (both checkpoint and checked bags) I've never heard of any TSOs stealing. Never heard gossip about it, never known of anyone to be reprimanded or fired for it. The only incident I recall was when a passenger complained that some Euro coins were missing from a bowl, post-X-ray. I had seen another passenger put them in her purse, and confronted her. She returned the coins, claiming it was an accident (yeah, suuuure!).

One incident, in more than 2 years, and thousands of encounters with passengers and other TSOs. Make of that what you will!

In Maine, all men may soon be suspect, regardless of profession

Jeez, use a little common sense and intellect when reading my posts, dude. It's called sarcasm. Look it up.

And yes, it was directed at you.

Of course, seeing as how the polices of the Catholic Church enabled the pedophiles to continue, makes the analogy continue to be apt in this instance.....

Therefore, I CONSIDER ALL INDIVIDUALS WHO WEAR THE COLLAR TO BE PEDOPHILING PEDOPHILES....

We're slipping OT, but you may well be correct on the above statement...

(Of course, being of a different faith and highly agnostic, I don't have to pass through a spirituality checkpoint, nor check my emotional baggage and fear its theft, every week...)

(Oh come on now, you've gotta admit that was at least a LITTLE funny!)
