Declaring a regular "Day of Flight without ID"
Any thoughts on establishing an official "Fly without ID in the U.S." day?
My thoughts: one day a year would be too seldom. But I would think declaring one day a month might be attainable.
I propose the 22nd of every month. Anyone who prefers a day other than the 22nd should please provide some sort of justification.
Can we get this rolling?
And feel free to wake me up if this 1) has already been done, 2) is being done, or 3) some other limiting factor.
(And move me to OMNI, if you must...
)

Edited to include what I consider highlights from this thread:
FliesWayTooMuch: "Don't lie because that is what will become the issue. Simply state that you desire to fly without presenting an ID."
Haveaniceday: "In order for this to work ever FT member would have to fly on the same day at the same airport at the same time of day. Good luck.
" Grog's response: It's not about FT only, it's about designating a regular day that the flying public might embrace. Think outside the box!

My only issue is how do I hide my ID so they don't find it during secondary.
Kinda defeats the purpose of "i am exercising my right to travel without ID" or the blatant lie "I lost my ID" if they just find it right away...

Is it a problem if they find the ID during secondary?
Do you have to lie and say you don't have ID? Can't you just decline to present it?
PS - I think it should be the 12th. Starting May 12th every day will be "No ID" day in MT :-)

(on the other hand, the main goal it will probably attain is outright banning of flight without ID).

Particularly at airports in non-compliant states, if you figure that half of all passengers will be locals and that about 75% of those have no ID other than a DL (not an unreasonable assumption, only ~20% of Americans have passports), you've got at least 38% of pax essentially flying "no ID." Let the HaraSSSSment begin.

This sort of debacle, particularly with it obviously caused by DHS/TSA (as opposed to passenger action), may be enough to turn the tide against TSAs ever more draconian security theater.

Well a fellow FTer said in a thread that the ID was considered invalid so s/he was flagged as "no id", then the TSO found his/her license during secondary and asked the FT'er why s/he lied about not having ID.
I am always honest with my intentions at stores and hotels when i insist on not showing my ID so i wouldn't lie to TSA either, but stores/hotels don't search my stuff and find my ID anyway.

Doing this will just make them find more ways to haraSSSSS travelers.
I'd suggest you use the media and your local representatives to protest.

I've often wondered what people say to the screeners to avoid the showing of ID. I usually say something along the lines of "I am refusing to show my ID for travel; please treat me as a 'no ID' passenger and refer me to secondary screening." I often get looked at cross-eyed because I think they are surprised someone knows about this, but I've had a few incidents, all in NYC airports, where I was outright harassed and refused the no ID option. Seeing as I had a flight to catch I ultimately gave in and showed ID - and was subject to some pretty thorough secondaries anyways - just so I wouldn't miss my flights, but there has to be a more consistent approach to making it through the line before anything like this will work.
As to the idea of protest, the only way for a protest to have an impact is for it to, well, have an impact. This means disrupting the daily operation of the organization(s) that are causing you harm. Sit-ins, marches, etc. all inconvenienced plenty of people who just wanted a sandwich or to drive to work or whatever, but they also gathered attention to a cause.
The problem that this effort will face is that in order to truly gather attention you need the media to help. Today's media will not listen to anything that doesn't comply with Kippie's talking points. If you called your local station and explained to them that the TSA is violating our civil rights and/or failing to comply with the Privacy Act you're not going to get air time or a couple column inches. The TSA has done such a phenomenal job with their (lying) PR machine to enforce the non-existent "ID is required to fly" rule that it will be virtually impossible to get any media outlet to publish anything going against the agency. If they're stealing stuff from our bags we can get an article about it, but nothing for them enforcing rules that don't exist. Sad, but true
