I normally print 2 or 3 copies of my BP, because I'm prone to losing them. I probably should start using a different copy at the WTMD than I do at the ID check.
NO ID in big letters highlighted several times in bright yellow is how my BP was decorated by the checker. But you need to know the highlighter color of the day before you can use a duplicate BP. They always mark them somehow, don't they?

A simple number tattooed to your body will suffice.

Not necessarily. I doubt most WTMD screeners would send do anything about a totally unmarked BP; the "all is OK" scribbles you get if you "pass" the ID check are so small and erratic that I suspect they are easily ignored.

I did ... I have lost a LOT of weight in the last year and look nothing like my drivers license. Using my passport takes all the hassle out of the scrutiny.

Sorry - but I'm not agreeing with that. I've never experienced that type of behavior from a TSO in Hawai'i.

As for "OGG not being designed for TSA type security.....what airport was? Cholula asserted "And the lines at OGG, due to increased security, are some of the longest in the U.S.". That is his subjective opinion and factually innaccurate, also, I'm afraid.

Sorry you feel that the "unpleasant experience" passing through Hawai'i security is the majority......I'll have to take my place in the minority section.

Mrs kaukau and I might just fit some in this forum's notion of "sheeple", with our kippie bag, ID and BP's in good order, slippahs off, no jewelry or belt buckles on our person, etc., etc.......but we just breeze through security here in Hawai'i slicker than snot with just a couple of "Howzit"s and "Aloha"s, dozens and dozens of times a year.

Wish the same for you all!

Aloha Kakou!

Gee, what would they say to us Canadians with our very colourful DLs. My British Columbian has a picture of a sunset on it. Would that not be acceptable?

What about other countries' DLs? They are government issued IDs. Just not the US government. Internal domestic US travel do not require one to carry passports.

Then what then?

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with the posts which see Hawai'i's TSA staff in a very poor light. I've encountered everything from downright rude to just wacko - wanding my bare feet as one wacko example, and it happened more than once.

The Aloha spirit seemingly vanishes right before the checkpoint and doesn't re-emerge until you're well away from the TSA's area.

If I was in the Governor's office, or even the mayor of an Island county, I'd be riding the FSD harder than lava down the pali to make sure all screeners in Hawai'i act as part of the 'ambassador' community which welcomes and promotes tourism, which can easily be accomplished while they do what passes for their jobs.

If necessary, I'd post state inspectors at the checkpoints who stood ready to intervene in extreme cases as well as accept and file complaints from customers who felt mistreated, and have one person responsible for escalating every reasonable complaint to the FSD over and over again until there was change.

Being rude and snarly does nothing to enhance security, and that goes for everywhere, not just Hawai'i.

Come on and hang loose with us as we pass through security "local style"......we'll show you how it's done!

Your agreeing or disagreeing with that statement is moot. It's something someone has stated as their experience. If you choose not to believe it, that's fine (and I don't believe everything I read in this forum, either). Unless you were there with that person, there's no grounds for you to contradict that statement.

Thank you for making my point in the previous paragraph.

Perfectly fine with me. We're just stating our experiences.

Just because you do things efficiently does not deem you to be "sheeple." I do that as well, because I want to get the hell away from the checkpoint.

Bending over and taking it when being wronged by a rogue TSAer, something that happens in rare cases, and not doing anything about it....that's being "sheeple."

But I want to be clear....there's a difference between a rogue TSAer and someone whose just unpleasant to be around. The unplesasant nature is what I've experienced.

Okay: I'm not here to promote Hawai'i tourism, or stand up for the TSA in Hawai'i, or persuade anybody that Maui No Ka Oi. (It is!)

But having flown in and out of every airport in this State with TSA security, over and over and over again, I'm of the opinion that those with the agressive, belligerent attitude and the chip on their shoulder when it comes to airport security are us FlyerTalkers ourselves!

Granted, 4 or more trips in and out of our airports a month by Mrs. kaukau and myself gives us a just a snapshot of what goes on at TSA checkpoints, but honestly, we just don't see the abuse by the TSA that raises such indignation and outrage from our fellow FTers, and you'd think by now we would.

I don't know what else to tell ya.

Aloha Kakou!

Mahalo! for the offer...why we get secondaries so much was the topic of another long-dead thread I started which called out Hawaiian Airlines for assigning the dreaded *S* for any tickets its system viewed as one-way, including open jaw, one-way and circular point-to-point. Hence, we got dinged every single time and even experimented with Go! and Aloha just to avoid the hassle.

After I complained directly to HA customer service management and called them out on their nonsensical "it's secret and for your safety" reply as well as blogged about the experience here on FT, the harassment stopped.

About the only time I get stressed on the Islands is at the airport checkpoint, wondering what insanity will befall us next.

SOP at any TSA checkpoint, including Hawaiian checkpoints, is abuse.

Any attitude or malfeasance is merely frosting on a multi-tiered cake of unacceptable harassment in the United States or any nation that claims to be a champion of freedom or civil liberties.
