Collapsable chair as carry-on?

Any thoughts one whether TSA will allow a collapsable chair as a carry-on? Mine is similar to those chair-in-a-bag that you see everywhere, but smaller. Essentially, it's composed of a few 26" lightweight aluminum poles, and some fabric.

There's no mention of it on the TSA prohibited items list, but I worry TSA sould consider it in the same category as the explicitly prohibited night stick / pool cue / ski pole.

Any way they will allow this on?

95 percent chance this would be allowed.

I don't think anyone is going to consider this a "duel use" item.

fwiw, i flew sfo-pbi (conx ord) pbi-sfo a little over a year ago on ua and on both the ord-pbi/pbi-ord flights, i saw the same pax carrying her folding beach chair on board.

As with everything TSA you're just going to have to try it and hope to get lucky. If the screener is having a bad hair day or on a power trip I'm sure they'll find some excuse to tell you it's a prohibited item.

So if it "ought" to be allowed, if I try it and they say no, is my best course of action:
a) ask for a supervisor
b) head over to the next checkpoint (this is DFW)
c) check it, or go put it back in the car and forget it

I have been 100% successful carrying a folding tripod camping stool like this one so I can sit in the front of Southwest A line to snag my exit row seat. 17" tall, Cordura seat, 2 pounds. Observers often remark what a great idea it is to have a stool. At 55, it's hard to squat like the kids.

I think the OP might have a degree of luck if the chair is needed for medical reasons such as not being able to stand for long periods of time. I've seen people traveling fine with the folding chairs that are partly a walking cane. I think Magellans' has that sort of thing. Here's the link:

Bring it. Cop the medical if anyone asks, which I seriously doubt. TSA seems to have lost interest in much these days. Food examination for example, is all but non-existent. I've been bringing salad dressing and such, and never a question (no I don't put it in a baggie). I saw a woman the other day pouring from a full size bottle of hot sauce on a flight. Now bring on the j-e-l-l-o.

Great idea for travel. I don't think TSA is going to blow a gasket about it.

I was carrying a cane with a brass handle for a while and they didn't bat an eye. It was much more dangerous than it looked, but with the 3 ring circus, it's all about perception and they obviously didn't think that an invalid with a bludgeon was much of a threat.
