Interesting point. My mother-in-law is planning to do just that on her return trip on Monday. She is planning on putting her lotion in a "secret" location on her person so she will have it on the plane. I tried to convince her that the FA might not appreciate it and she might even get in trouble with the FBI, but she is insistent on doing it. If you hear of a flight being diverted on Monday because a little old lady had a "lotion of mass destruction" on board, you will know she got caught.

Good for her!! I hope you're kidding about suggesting she might get in trouble with the FBI for smuggling lotion, though ;)

Here is my fear.....

Mother-in-law: Pulls lotion bottle out of her purse and begins to apply
FA: "you are not allowed to have that on board"
MIL: "I didn't think there was anything wrong with it"
FA: "I will need to confiscate that item"
MIL: "No way"
FA: Attacks MIL and screams for help from other FA

Announcer: A US Airways plane was diverted today when an elderly woman smuggled a banned substance, believed to be a chemical capable of causing harm, was discovered in her purse by an alert flight attendant. The woman was subdued and taken into custody by FBI agents...... ... Chertoff said the diversion was done out of an abundance of caution.

Oh, it's entirely stupid, just put the lighter in your pocket - I wasn't speaking as to the effectiveness of the ban, simply the rules themselves.

You can thank the congress for this one, Kip actually wants lighters taken off the banned list.

She made it without being caught - although she did tell me that one "concerned" passenger told her that she shouldn't "have that on the plane." Since this was on the descent into CHA, the other PAX didn't alert the FA and no one bothered her as she got off the plane.

no worries and where i don't take my shoes off (medical reasons), i get the full massage so if the lighter was in my pocket they'd find it :( but it's gonna be interesting with the new carryon rules as i can now bring my rollaborad on the plane (and in it will be a lighter).
