i truly hope that someone asscociated with the title of my post reads this. just go to the outside smoking patio at lax t-6 and watch how many badged airport employees (i.e. starbucks, etc) and badged and uniformed tsa employees light up using lighters. saturday night, september 16, 2006 between 5:30 pm and 9:15pm, i counted 4 airport employees and 7 different badged and uniformed tsa employees using lighters (and here's one-w/m 6'3"-6'5" 185-190 lbs-can't miss him as he's a stick) . so, i can't [everyone start barking] bring a lighter, bring toothpaste, liquid, gel or any other assorted item the tsa decides is a threat past security and must take my shoes off tho i won't and don't and am still flying (yet you MAY bring a toy gun provided it is not realistic in appearance). anyone feel safer now...... physician heal thyself!

No, it's not toothpaste. It looks like that but it's personal lubricant -- it's okay for me to take on board! :D :D :D

What I do not understand is the continual statements along the lines of "we appreciate citizens cooperation to keep us safer...".

It is NOT what our cooperative citizens do, but what the bad guys do. How stupid can they be?

(that was a stupid question, sorry)

I flew DL today out of VPS thru ATL to DCA. At VPS security I had every tube of lipstick opened and checked and was questioned whether I wore contacts when the screener found my rewetting drops. Are they supposed to do that? A gentleman behind me was quite peeved that they took his shoe polish which was a solid, not gel and not a liquid.

BTW, my lip gloss and lip balm were safely tucked away in my cleavage. I Fedexed my toiletries to the hotel just in case my luggage was lost. Fortunately, it was not.

I also sent an empty water bottle through and filled it at the water fountain at the gate and then placed it in my bag.

Interesting note--the "30 minute rule" was announced and there was a mad rush to the restrooms. I immediately questioned the nearest flight attendant as to why since it had been repealed a year ago. She said and some other crew had wondered as well and they were checking with the pilot to see if anything had changed recently that they didn't know about. She came back in a few minutes and told me the FA that made the announcement had made a mistake.

I know someone ;) who recently carried the following items through the metal detector in his pockets:

Chapstick
Toothpaste
Hair Gel

The screeners flagged a carry-on bag which contained > 4 oz contact lens solution, but apparently missed or didn't care about the second bag which contained an additional 2 oz. (do they teach math at the TSA academy? :p ) Also missed the liquid gelcaps.

Today my sister flew from JAX to DCA and had lip gloss as well as lotion in her bag that she forgot about and the bag wasn't flagged.

Remember, the inconsistencies are keeping us safe.

Soooo, you are happy to be selected for secondary screening! (pulling blue gloves onto hands and snapping them) :D

My bag got pulled out for secondary screening because they thought they saw bottles in it. They were right. The TSA guy went all through it but did not find the bottles. Fortunately, I meant no harm with those bottles.

Didn't mean to cause a mess, just wanted to point out how hard fast food workers work.

My daughter just quit at McDonalds :td: because they only gave her one 30 minute break in a 9-10 hour day.

Mrs. Teacher49 and I flew to YVR last week. My wife was asked to step over to secondary. They found 3 cigarette lighters and about 4 tubes of various gels and creams. She joined me at the gate very embarrassed.

We boarded, she reached into her purse and found a tube of stuff that was at least 4 oz. that was missed.

Over the next days, she found two more lighters in her backpack.

Great job, guys and gals! I feel so much safer!

That's alright... I know at least one individual that got through with a lighter and pocketknife in his pocket. I've had them freak out over a tactical flashlight before and miss a new, in the box, Zippo that was lying on top of the flashlight.

I think this latest ban is definitely showing the general public (i.e. non-flyertalk.com folks) the ineffectiveness of TSA checks for these newly prohibited items.

Now the general public realizes they can get through security with a little bit of trickery.
